I've been playing FF14 since the beginning of this year and am just about to cross 400 instances ran. So, not only do you have to rack up 1,000 instances, which is already a really high standard for new mentors, you have to earn 1,500 commendations. I'm not home right now to see how many commendations I have but I guarantee I'm not even at 700 yet... Probably not even 600 either.

I would've agreed with 650 for commendations but again, the 1,000 instances is already a long venture that isn't something short like the Trade Mentor. If the argument is mentor ship is too easily achieved for "Burger King" / pedestal reasons, then PvE isn't the issue. It's already a long venture just getting the completed instances count alone and now the requirement is to get 1,500 commendations on top of it? I think that's overkill for PvE.

I strongly believe folks are misunderstanding how long it takes to complete the PvE requirements compared to a Trade Mentor.
Speaking only about the commendation requirements: they chose 1,500 because there’s an achievement for reaching 1,500 comms. The mentor system checks flags (e.g., flags for level 80 job quest completion, flags for 1,000 dungeons, etc.), and the flags are achievements earned.

Commendation achievements are: 10 > 100 > 300 > 500 > 1,500 > 3,000. 500 is still a bit too low, so the next threshold is 1,500. I’d wager it’s due to the coding of the system checking for achievements that made the developers choose 1,500 instead of a value like 700 or 1,000.
