I don't think a community Flameboard is really a good idea. I think something like this would be better shared with friends, and people you know on your server. I don't see much good that could come over people having a Flameboard, cause as I've seen with previous sites, it gets to where people post over just about anything.

If someone is truly worthy of being mentioned on the flameboard, chances are other people already know about and avoid this person as well. I could name a few people on my XI server that everyone knew to stay away from, lol.

Anyway, if the laws of both the US (where I live) and France (where you live) agree that defamation requires that the statement be false, why wouldn't we assume for the sake of conversation that it's a valid requirement until presented with a case in a different jurisdiction? Especially since I'm certain that the nations' respective laws also relate to their citizens' posting defamatory things online.

This. If someone is annoying you here or ingame, report them. No need to allow users to flame others (that sometimes might not even use the forums so cannot defend self)...at least not in a feedback forum. This kind of flaming topic would be completely out of purpose in this forum.

Frankly, once a botter always a botter and it's only a matter of time. I didn't play FFXI but I take comfort in the fact that the day they did do something about botting remains etched in the minds of many people. But this was years after the games launch. I'm not sure what the internal workings of Square Enix mandates but if history tells us anything, Bot-Maggedon will come eventually.

Actually unless your thinking of a different time then I am the mass banning wasn't for botting but for exploiting. Though the STF did ban botters on a fairly regular basis (Updating us once a month I believe towards the end of when I was playing). I presume it's less of a concern right now because of the way the game is I don't even think they have a STF in XIV.

It took years for SE to do something about the RMT in 11 which ended up causing a complete economy crash, I very much doubt anything will be done about botting until 2.0.

In XI the economy was screwed up much more because of the exploit in tavnazia then any botter ever did afaik.

P.S. I only feel this way after reading the giant legal throw-down tit for tat attack between the brainiacs on Lindblum, and my opinion has absolutely nothing to do with the OP argument/suggestion. Which by the way I am completely on the fence about cause I am Canadian and love everyone whether they have bad days on the internets or not. <3 neighbours to the south and of course vive la France!

Well this thread has made a stupid amount of pages. I've seen a lot of outright condemnation of the very idea of this thread. Leads one to believe that many are against this idea for some legitimate reasons. One's I agree with, which is why moderators are necessary on EVERY forum. There's also a lot of people against this because they want to be able to have a 'bad day' and 'take it out on everyone around him' and not be forced to take accountability for it. If you're having a bad day and you go to school/work/public place and act in a ludicrously offensive manner, you will be forced to take responsibility. One day is all it takes. You should NOT be allowed to attack people maliciously because you woke up with grumpy.

This isn't about slander, or defamation of character. This is about expressing an interaction one had with another, and others have reaffirmed the same affair, for the purpose of destroying so many people's precious anonymity.

Also, lots of people have brought up botting/cheating, why? What does that have to do with how someone behaves and interacts with a community? This was never about outing people because they're x level, or have x amount of gil, or anything related to you in-game status. It's about one's communication skills as a person.

Also, answer away. I think I'm done checking this thread. Not because the response isn't what I wanted, but that I honestly feel stupid for assuming the internet wouldn't have trolls who are interested in flaming and actually committing defamation. What was I thinking this morning? Oh well.
