Yes, but here it seems like pointing out "WoW bad, FFXIV good!" is some heroic act. It has gone as far as people blaming FFXIVs bot problem on Blizzard, or other ridiculous things. But it's only WoW. Never any other MMO.

It isn't like the console war where fans of sony are constantly saying they like sony, and Nintendo/Xbox is trash, or whatever. It's people constantly demonizing Blizzard, and WoW, and making them a bogeyman.

Probably because Wow is the only serious competitor of FFXIV.

The recent console wars do not really involve Nintendo, because they don't target the same audience. And if you look at really old console wars, it was Sega Vs Nintendo, even though other consoles existed at that time.

Y: I usually compare FFXIV with a theme park, but the Forbidden Land of Eureka won’t be a place where everyone would want to go. For example, there are people who don’t want to go to horror houses because they don’t see the point in getting scared on purpose. For example, on a date, the boyfriend might want to invite the girlfriend to go the horror house, but the girlfriend just doesn’t seem to find it fun. In other words, it’s not like everyone wants to go to the horror house, but there are people who just love the adrenalin rush they get from it. Think of Eureka as something like that.

I mean, I was generalizing the console wars.
When I started seeing that stuff it was like.. what.. PS2/Xbox/Gamecube?

I do believe Sega started it, but I mean, I never really saw that stuff because the Internet wasn't a widespread thing for kids - at least not in my house.

Elder Scrolls Online is about on the same pace as FFXIV in terms of numbers, but I don't think ESO has much of if any Asia presence.

WoW - it depends on how big the Chinese population is and whether or not they are counted. They should be counted, but if they are, then the real #1 MMO is Lineage, by about a factor of 10x bigger than WoW.

Globally speaking - everyone is actually competing with Lineage. But since Lineage has such a tiny western presence English language forums often forget about it. If it's available in Japan (I know it's in China and Korea) then it is definitely FFXIV's main competition and would then by a big factor in why SE engages with the western audience so much (we provide them some 'buffer' against the influence of Lineage).

The reason we see all these weird Korean pay-to-win mobile MMOs that seem to all have the exact same art-style and gameplay is Lineage. They're all trying to peel off players who grew up playing Lineage to something either more modern or more accessible during a subway ride to/from work in Seoul or Beijing... And then they get ported over here and we lack the reference so just wonder 'lolwut?'

    Back on topic:
The only reason I would be against a WoW crossover is that I feel WoW has been headed the wrong way for a while now... But otherwise I'd love to see it. Don't play Diablo as it's not an MMO so can't speak to that.

I think FFXIV has more to gain from it than WoW does. The more western players FFXIV has the less whoever pays the bills at SE will want to inject lineage-themes into this. Thank goodness FFXIV is growing or that'd be the game's fate. But I think WoW looks at FFXIV players are sees a lot of it's former subs... a crossover just might cost them more subs.

I would actually prefer an Elder Scrolls or Guild Wars crossover - those are cases where I think both games in the partnership would get boosts.
