The variant that happens often is "Lul, 3 expacs later and people still wipe in LotA lmao".The "git gud" crowd exists here too. It's just you're less likely to see any complaints or people harassing you for two reasons. (1) Harassment is punishable by banning if reported & (2) Most of the people like that are end game. So the most recent Raid, Savage, or EX content you'll be much more likely to run across someone like that. Most will still just silently leave though instead of mouthing off because they're afraid of getting banned.
You’re on Balmung. I am on Couerl so I can visit your world. Everytime I do chat is full of stuff. I am surprised you’re finding it quiet. But if so as others noted join some link shells. Just go to Limsa aetheryte and shout a request for sone linkshells for grouping, hunts, and newer players.
While there are toxic players here they are notably less common and less vocal when so acting. They do cluster in endgame, but even there it is not hard to avoid them.
Most of the hassle I get is people who feel the need to remind me of the rules of being in Taliban territory thanks to my choice of glam to which I note that no, we are not actually in Taliban territory so they can either get on my blacklist or be reported and then also on my blacklist...

I do play FFXIV for over 6 years and the community is probably the greatest point what called my attention. After all it's a MMO and Community Toxicity is important for social health, FFXIV does have the best and friendly community i've seen in my life.
But toxic people is there, fortunately in comparison to another Online game ( MMO or not ) the toxicty % is way lower. By my personal experience rarely you find those kind of people and usually they are found in End-Game Raid content ( so give preference for pre-made groups, because you can find toxic people at random groups giving shots to everyone who make a mistake there ) and especially Novice Network, that place it's a lost cause, at least in my server.
Idk what raid it is but sounds like a simple one without dps checks etc.
I doubt anyone would act different in FFXIV in a similar situation, like a MSQ raid.
About world feeling silent i totally understand that and i'm with you.
I cant blame anyone for avoiding chatting outside of FC/linkshells tho, snowflakes/crybabies will report you over anything here and the GM's will barely check the report before warning/banning you.
So its far safer to not say a single word around randoms.
There's a lot of toxic people in savage/ex. Trust me. Here are the most notable toxic people I've ever had the misfortune of witnessing:
-PF set up for farm. Toxic guy who only cleared by getting carried sneaks his way into it
-Gets silently kicked, reports party leader for harassment.
-Demands an explanation, finally gets one, reports the person who gave the explanation.
-Attempts to join another savage/ex, PF explicitly states logs will be checked before starting duty. Joins party anyways, gets kicked 3mins later, reports pf leader for log check.
-Goes to forum, complains all savage/ex raiders are toxic. Complains about being called out for underperforming in the most difficult content in the game. Petitions to SE all manner of performance measuring tools and websites should be outright banned. Returns to game to lead completely "non-toxic" inquisition/crusade against all who "don't pay their sub".
And then on the not so quite savage but regular endgame duties, you also have this type:
-Uses half toolkit available, gets called out, files harassment report on the caller
-Was asked if they were new to duty so they could receive crucial tips on certain mechs. Did not respond. Calls other people toxic for not providing help after being called out for dying several times to the same mech.
-Enrolls as tank in 8/24man raid. Does not want to main tank. Starts fighting other tank for aggro.
-Enrolls in 8/24man raid as healer. Tunnel dps. Other healer goes oom. Gets mad at other healer for being called out on not healing. Files report for toxicity.
-Enrolls in 8/24man raid as a dps. Fails to complete dps checks. Petitions SE to nerf content. Calls people who want challenging content toxic.
EDIT: Should be noted here, all the call outs refer to blunt/straightforward/neutral call outs, not the "you stupid, clumsy, *****, what the eff are you doing, you waste of oxygen" call outs.

That's a wee bit ridiculous. I suppose if someone can't manage to string together a sentence that's not full of insults and curse words, perhaps private chats are the way to go. For everyone else, don't worry too much.
Sure, people can send reports for anything, but that doesn't mean anything will come of it.
Very happy you had an enjoyable raid! Another reason why most people do not mind the new player is that if the dungeon or raid ect. has someone that has not done it the entire group gets a bonus. Just an fyi in case you missed that. Happy gaming!

Now that's my community.

People are very snowflake-ish on FFXIV and report a lot, so many people just chat in FC or linkshells. And even then, you could still get reported. But even so, FFXIV is a much better mmo overall.
