The difference between WoW and FF14

So finally made it to level 50 and that "raid". The one called "bard"-something-or-other. Full party.

What struck me was the massive difference between WoW and FF14.

Due to not knowing the fight and my horrendous latency (1000+ms), I died...a lot.

Not one single person flamed me, or told me to "get gud", or uninstall, or anything like that.

Actually, they just kept throwing rezzes at me.

What a HUGE difference between that experience and the experience I'd have under the same circumstances in WoW. It's actually amazing.

I just wish FF14 wasn't so quiet! I do miss the world chat WoW has. FF14 is very lonely. I don't play very much because I feel so alone in the world. I liked the world chat because, even when not participating, it made the world seem so much more alive. The chat was entertaining as much as the gameplay was.

We do have the linkshells (server and cross world) which is the equivalent of world chat, but I know what you mean. It can vary you might get in and have as you said a quiet experience or you might have a talkative one. Good to hear you had a nice raid time.

The "linkshells" cross server/world exist in WoW a long time before FFXIV.
You need just group your friend (for your friend cross server) and you can play with him, in the same DC. The party leader "teleport" all the party in his server, automatically.

You can build party raid from your friendlist.

As a result, your argument is irrelevant.

Uhm, what argument? It looks like Krokov was trying to offer a potential solution to "world chat," although a linkshell is still limited to the people who are invited and not something that anyone can join.

There is also novice network, but that also has its own rules for joining and the quality of chat can vary, as with any (semi-)public chat.

What argument? I was offering or suggesting chat channels if you will that are similar to world chat. How in any way was that an argument?

People are very report heavy in this game, so most people only use guild chats (free company) and linkshell chats. If those people had anything negative to say to you, they were keeping it to those chats probably. Shout chat would probably be used more, but this game is full of tattlers tbh. You can be warned for instance just by simply swearing, it doesn't have to be towards anyone. Which is silly since we have a chat filter, but meh.

Must be doing something against the license agreement to get "tattled" on, as you so call it. I think you exaggerate just a bit on when and why people report. Remember this is FFXIV not WoW. if you want to be obnoxious and bully go back to WoW, because in this game you're made responsible for your actions if that's what your main complaint is. If you expect people to let you disrupt their game play and make it an unpleasant experience then you better think twice. Nothing wrong in that what-so-ever. Act with some maturity and you'll be just fine in FFXIV.

Hmm, the only thing with 'Bard' in it is a level 65ish dungeon of the Stormblood expansion called Bardem's Mettle, and that was not too much trouble when I ran it.

Are you sure it wasn't Binding Coil of Bahamut you were doing? As that was the level 50 raid (and the Second and Final Coils as well), that was once the 'end game' for FFXIV. It's nice to hear you were treated kindly. It shows our community is actually very compassionate, despite what is often said.

If you want something like a 'world chat', go to Ul'dah as on Balmung that is the 'hub' for RPers and just people that want to talk, and thus you'll find people chatting randomly in /shout (there are other places too like that such as Kugane and Eulmore but they're higher level that you wouldn't have access to at the moment). It's why finding friends to play with or just talk to is so important in this game, so I'd suggest looking for a social FC or ls to join as they'd be more likely to just want to chat about stuff.

    Anyway, keep enjoying Eorzea!

I'm going to guess it's "The Minstrel's Ballad". Close enough in two different directions - same meaning and similar sound.

The "git gud" crowd exists here too. It's just you're less likely to see any complaints or people harassing you for two reasons. (1) Harassment is punishable by banning if reported & (2) Most of the people like that are end game. So the most recent Raid, Savage, or EX content you'll be much more likely to run across someone like that. Most will still just silently leave though instead of mouthing off because they're afraid of getting banned.
