What if we get banned in our steam account? We cant play ff14 anymore?

You simply DL the client from SE's web page, punch in your credentials, install and play.
You don't need steam. Never did.

I think I used steam ONCE for the original setup back in 2015 when I bought the game. After that I never again had the steam client running. In fact, Steam thinks FF-XIV isn't even installed (I always have to start a fake setup in order to get to new keys whenever they release expansions).

However from August 29 that will no longer be the case. We will need to launch via the Steam play button, in order to be able to login. If we try to use the client from SE's web page, it'll refuse to log us in.

I feel like I did this but I'm not sure.

I do know I run the game through .exe. It's still in the Steam directory but no Steam logins are required to play. In my Steam library the last time I played was years ago (which obviously is not the case).

So at the end of August I will no longer be able to do this?

Assuming this isn't delayed again, that is correct. You'll have to start it up via the Steam client.

Which isn't necessarily a bad thing in itself. I just hope players aren't d/ced the moment Steam has problems since they always do. If Steam authentication is required just to log in and not keep playing then it will mostly be a non issue.

It does absolutely nothing to help me, but introduces more potential problems. It's a purely negative change.
