The idea might sound good on paper, but if implemented it would be a train wreck.

Well considering roulettes require to have cleared the content before unlocking... That wouldn't be an absurd complaint.
That's only really true for EX roulette (and will probably be true for 80 roulette when that comes), MSQ roulette, and Mentor roulette, though I may have missed one. For the others - leveling, 50/60/70, trials, alliance raids, normal raids, etc. - you can unlock content in the roulette and never complete it, yet still get loaded into it for the first time via the aforementioned roulettes. They could implement a similar lock to EX roulette for it, but it still wouldn't prevent people from getting carried through the content via unsyncing and not actually learning how to do them.
who would sign up for a roulette that wouldn't be cleared in a lockout? xD mentor roulette ex trials are already a pain to deal with as is.
There are a lot of short one-liners that simply amount to "no" in this thread, so I'll just reply to the two that stood out to me:
It would be great if more people used the Party Finder to browse, but I doubt that there are simply enough people looking for random parties to browse in when the duty finder fulfills a similar purpose whilst providing a possible reward via roulettes.No. It's time people accept to communicate a little with the party finder when they want to group in a MMO, and not rely only on auto-groups made by the game.
There are already too much auto-groups in this game.
Sure auto-groups are "necessary" for content which it tied to the story, but not for other contents.
The concept of hating a system designed for convenience is just too reminiscent of jaded MMO players who crowd in the /r/MMORPG subreddit. There is a fine line between seeking out other players proactively and having to wait hours for the right people to answer your call.
I agree that tomestones are not a good enough reward. A mount associated with the roulette is a good incentive, but I'm sure SE can think of better rewards. Furthermore, I think adding a permanent 15-25% echo is a good idea specifically for the roulette, but I am iffy about that because, as I stated in my OP, I do want a way for newer players to get a taste of high-end content in the difficulty it was meant to be experienced in, in the context of a duty roulette.Good idea in theory (especially if there was a prestige mount tied to clearing 100 EX Roulette in addition to tomes and more primal drops), but would require a lot of tuning and restrictions to work as intended.
If it's just tomes and there is no said heavy-handed restrictions, it's going to turn into Garuda EX roulette.

You know what, I wouldn't mind this given the following:
1. Restrict it to ARR and HW content, SB content added in 6.0, ShB content added in 7.0, etc.
2. Make it default to unsynced whether you run it via duty finder or roulette. Since they're old content, no need to sync them still.
3. Have a duty finder option to enter them synced (including min ilvl) for preformed parties that want to run them synced.
Bonus:
4. Not just EX trial, but also add Coil (Normal and Savage) and Alexander (Savage) to its own roulette with the same 3 settings above.
This way, new players can just queue right away with duty finder when they unlock these raids and EX trials and it will automatically be run unsynced and matched up with people running roulettes, and since they'll be unsynced, there is high chance of clear and lower chance of people bailing.
they already have it it's called mentor roulette. And you get 30 tomes for doing it.
"Sometimes I wonder I heal for fun. or if I heal because I'm a glutton for punishment."
Mentor roulette still syncs you, but not with my idea (not necessarily OP's). And the idea is for people running the roulette to know what they're getting into because these will be their own separate roulettes.
The 30 tomes is probably because you can get guildhest in a mentor roulette, if I'm not mistaken.

It's something I have mulled over personally for a while since I too would like some form of difficult roulette.I agree that tomestones are not a good enough reward. In fact, I just thought of something along the lines of Frontlines "Roulette" where every day it's a different extreme primal, and only that extreme primal. You queue in solo to try your luck at clearing. Rewards would be tuned appropriately (i.e. Garuda challenge days giving paltry rewards in comparison to Thordan challenge days).
This way that people know exactly what they're getting into and whether or not they want to deal with said primal that day. Have the easier ones give less points to gather said rewards from the roulette. People who want to farm up fast will go for the harder primals, but it would not exclude people who would do the slower, easier route of only queuing on easy days.
As for rewards... mass tomes, mount for achievement (100? 200?), maybe guaranteed drop of crafting material and pony/bird/dog, titles, or exclusive glam.

Just a straight roulette would be a disaster, but I think it could work as a challenge thing.
This is actually a great idea. This way, players unfamiliar with the trial can read up on or watch video guides (not guaranteeing that that will necessarily happen, but it increases the chances of it), and it makes the run smoother for everyone else. Having daily trial like that with a known EX primal is also a good in-game conversation starter ("Shiva EX is up today in roulette, wanna do it with me?") etc.In fact, I just thought of something along the lines of Frontlines "Roulette" where every day it's a different extreme primal, and only that extreme primal.
