When did calling PS4 players “console peasants” become acceptable?

If you go and develop for 4-year old systems that can't be upgraded, what do you think is the outcome? Look at the "PS3 limitations" this game suffered while PC players had plenty of VRAM left but had to look at bad textures or there were even NPCs moved because the console could not handle it (in one patch note they moved NPC in Revenant's Toll due to the PS3 having massive frame rate issues - let that sink in).

Console gaming is also still more popular in Japan than PC, and FF MMO's have had a long legacy on console. Square Enix has to consider their home market, so holding back development or not 14 will continue to support console, likely until its run its course and gone into maintenance mode a la FF11. At least in 14 you can still play the game on an equal footing between platforms; PC was miles better in FF11 just based on how much easier it was to do gearswap macros alone.

2. There seems to be this inferiority complex going on regarding jobs. I'm not doubting min wage jobs suck. But it's temporary - as you get older and work on career/school/marketable skills you will move on and be able to afford nicer things, it's how it goes. (And if you aren't moving along, maybe ask yourself how you're prioritizing your time and work/life balance. MMOs are a great hobby but don't let that come at the expense of your career.)

I think you underestimate the reality of late-stage capitalism. Power concentrates ever upward, and true upward mobility becomes scarcer every generation.

I have a Master's degree and a state geologist's license, and it still took me a year post-grad school to find a job in my field. In that time, I worked at a grocery store gas station which thankfully had a union attached. I met a lot of great coworkers, people who are essentially trapped by these sorts of undercompensated service industry jobs. I saw firsthand how the employer fought the union, tooth and nail, to even take away the meek wages and benefits we already had, let alone consider paying their workers a living wage for the region we were situated in. How they tried to cut out higher paying jobs (why pay for professional meatcutters at $22/hour when you can make "courtesy clerks" do any job in the store for over $10 less?) and automate as much as they could (ripped out nearly all the non-"self service" lines. Union did a poll of customers, found they preferred manned lines, they took that to the employer and the employer sneered "they'll get used to it").

For more and more people, min or near-min wage jobs are not temporary. They are a career. And anyone working full time for a living deserves a livable wage. Full stop.

Memes, even the "joke" ones, are the fundamental building blocks of transmissible cultural ideas. "The DNA of the soul" as Metal Gear once put it. Being a meme or a joke does not put an idea above criticism, and I do think there's something unpleasant about framing anything relating to unequal power dynamics in terms used by racial supremacists.

It's been a funny meme for many years now. It's due to the fact that, obviously, PC's have higher quality and fidelity and FPS etc etc then any console. Each time consoles get close within the 50% or so power range, PC's take off again.

A year isn't that long, compared to your claim of "being stuck" which would imply a period of time much longer than that. I don't say this lightly; it also took me a while of working an unrelated job, while working on projects on the side on my own time, before I got into a program relevant to my career. You haven't really explained why said people in your example aren't working on non menial skills.

I'd ask if you planned to play if you planned to play at 240 fps or something with a rig like that but as other peasants have said in the past "the human eye cannot see above 30/60 fps" so i guess you plan to play at 8k.

Wasn't referring to myself when I said stuck. On the contrary, I had every expectation I'd eventually find something I actually wanted to do, which I did. But I come from a heavily privileged position: cheap rent because living with relatives, no student debt, born into upper-middle class to begin with, white male that can pass for straight, etc. etc.

Anyways, some of my coworkers had been in other industries, esp. the older men, but got laid off, the jobs they used to work just don't exist anymore (automation, outsourcing), and they don't have the time or resources to start over at age 50+. For the younger people, many of them lack the money to pursue higher education or even trade school. Their families didn't have it for them, and we're past the days when you can work full time at minimum wage to put yourself through college, let alone the part time that'd make doing both at once reasonable. When your crappy wage barely pays enough to get by, being told for save up for any kind of tuition seems disingenuous when it'll take years to get to the point where you can start. Oh, there's student loans, but I've got plenty of other horror stories about those. Rent, medical expenses, insurance, food, taxes, it all stretches the budget very thin when you're given so little and that makes it hard to invest in anything that will get you OUT.

Get promoted? Enjoy that $1/hour raise for being PIC. If you're manager, you get a whole extra $4/hour!

Even if you do eventually make the move to being paid, say, double to triple min-wage, you're still under or breaking even with where minimum wage should have been if it'd kept up with inflation and cost of living increases.

And that's all a distraction anyways. Min-wage jobs are real jobs. They provide labor and time that generates a benefit for someone else, either their employer and/or a customer. They deserve a living wage, anyone working more specialized jobs should be paid well above that, and no one should be paid the obscene amounts the executive class currently make. Attempts to belittle the work they do are attempts to dehumanize them and create a facade of "justice" that blames the victims of systemic inequity rather than the system itself and those that profit most from it.

This is the last I'll say on the matter. This is a FF14 forum and I probably shouldn't have taken this thread in such a tangent to begin with, and also I don't personally have the time to fully argue my position to my satisfaction (esp. since it's on the wrong sort of forum for it to really make an impact).

No where did I insult "PC Users" I own a copy of the game for my laptop even though I mostly play on my PS4 Pro, what I did call childish was the attitude that people think they are better than others because they own a high end PC and call people who play on PS4 peasants. I think its great to game on PC and even talk about performance/hardware and what not, like I said what I was calling childish was the "I'm better than you cause I'm on PC and you are a console peasant" I've seen on multiple posts from multiple people

I wouldn't worry too much about forum trash talkers. The forum is full of people who complain things are too easy, yet whine when presented a challenge. They'll eagerly parrot complaints about jobs word for word because a big name says they don't like x or y. They'll slam a job one day because it isn't 'top tier' only to flock over the second it becomes strong. Anything that requires forethought is derided for being 'bad' in their shortsighted vision.

I have a fairly expensive pc I use to play the game. I also buy the game on PS4 for emergencies if I ever need it. I prefer console gaming, as my psn profile has been around since 2006 or so, pretty much only use my pc for skyrim and xiv, but upgrade it as a hobby.

I really don't think its friendly or joking banter I mean the one dude was making fun of me saying I was on the autistic spectrum(which btw I actually am), I'm sure to most people it is a joke, a tired, old joke, but there's a small subset that actually say it seriously.
