The game literally tells you that there are new people when you start.
if this is a common enough occurrence, you might be surrounding yourself with the wrong folks or just getting entirely unlucky with people in Duty Finder. the community I roll with like to go in Extremes blind and learn the fight in 1-2 lockouts, then teach others the fight the same way. Of course, thats entirely on the level of skill the people are.

but to echo what others are saying: no one should honestly be expecting anything other than basic game mechanics from dungeons (face boss away from party, dont stand in AoEs.) That's literally it.

If it's something you join a party finder for (Savage raids and EX trials), then you should read the PF description and see if it's a blind, prog, clear, farm etc.
Sadly there will always be people who expect everyone to know everything when using Duty Finder.
Every MMO with a Dungeon Finder feature have those people.

I understand being frustrated when someone doesn't know the mechanics, trust me. But getting pissed off at someone for not knowing when it's their first time going through is so stupid.

Literally my fiance feels like they CAN'T tank a dungeon without memorizing the mechanics completely before going through because they know people who've done it before will get pissed off and yell at them for it.

I absolutely hate this bullshit. Let people learn as they go. You shouldn't have to research things before doing them.
Just tell people you're new. The game literally teaches you the mechanics as you go.

The problem here is that people have forgotten the point of roulettes. They weren't created for the veterans getting tomestones. That's the carrot to get you to do them. They were created to keep the content populated for the new people.

Sorry to hear you and your fiancé had that experience! Honestly tanking intimidates the hell out of me, but I can say that in terms of dungeons there are two things that can help if you aren’t stupid over leveled and able to practice solo a bit. One is watching let’s plays/walkthroughs of the dungeons along with instructions on rotations. Another, which is easier in some ways but more risky in others, is just tell people at the start that you’re learning tank and new at this. Most of the time people are pretty good about that.

Good luck and hope things get better for you both!

As someone who's played since 1.0 and remembers pretty much every mechanic in fights, it saddens me when people watch guides for dungeons, trials, and normal raids.

You can watch if you want, but I certainly don't expect it. It's pretty easy to figure things out after a run or 2.

It's not like people in PF put in their party description "please have watched a guide". Oh wait... they do...

I fail to see why thats an issue, in any case. OP, you, me, everyone on the forums can make a PF and put what they want in it. No ones being forced to join. But if you join a PF with those guidelines and havent, you have literally 0 right to complain if they kick you, and even mock you if they get that petty. There are absolutely ways around every single problem OP is worried about. If you dont want to run with rando's who might scrutinize you for things they probably wont, make a PF. Join a FC that has that type of playstyle, create a link shell for "blind runners" You see PF like this all the time on patch day, "Blind run for new dungeon that just came out" I've even made/seen "blind run learning party, bring your wipes"

My friend and I will consider kicking someone if they give a newbie a hard time. Best way to learn a fight is to do the fight. And then get tips from people you're grouped with as needed.

I will say this though. I've been able to figure out every mechanic except one without a video. The last boss in Mount Gulg. When they clone and then do their attack on the first split. I didn't realize the ring coming out had the second ring on the halo'd one only. I couldn't see the halo before due to the colors of the arena and background hiding it.

So when the attack would happen I'd get a vulnerability stack about 75% of the time. It was frustrating because I knew it could be avoided and couldn't see it. Like literally couldn't see it. It wasn't until I was chatting with a friend about it who like me, can learn mechanics on the fly, and they weren't seeing it either. So when I saw the video, I noticed the halo. Then it made sense. The halo'd one has the blessing and has the second ring.

Now I'm about 100% capable of avoiding SHB dungeon mechanics. Though even before that video, I wasn't dying in the fight, just only getting hit by the one attack.
