no more a jab who think pic related is fine and lore friendly but male viera are a step too farIf this is another Jab at the Lore of Viera, this picture has nothing to do with the decade old race.
At the same time.....this picture belongs in a Museum. Children must know that our Forefathers: Pepe the Frog, flew the Mighty T-rex over the great Plains of the Fae
Considering that most of those children end up dying; well - it makes me wonder how much watching they do. Or do they just go 'go hunt for food if you don't succeed, you starve.' or 'Go survive a few days on your own, if you can't - well, you're dead.' Do they actually bond with their charges? Are they cold and distant as they know that most of them will perish? The more I think about it the more I think they're ice kings who are extremely distant. And if they are caring and the likes... god bless them for having to go through that multiple of times - and perhaps even with their own sons and not just running away from it all. This got me thinking - how many children do male viera mentor? They come down to the village and take the male children who are of age. What age is that? Around 10-13 or something?
While the male viera are out and about, they also need to mentor the children, as well as take care of them. I'm going to guess male viera have more than just hunting and defending the wood to deal with. We assume all male viera do is defend the wood, but there seems to be more to it than that. They teach and care for the young ones, too. Depending how many children they take under their wing, it almost seems like a lot of babysitting.
Something something, Piccolo training with Gohan but much worse.

Do you have a source for where it says most of the children end up dying? I just wanna see that for myself.Considering that most of those children end up dying; well - it makes me wonder how much watching they do. Or do they just go 'go do this, if you don't you die'. These are some questions I wonder about, too. Is there any bonding, or is it like Piccolo training? How many children are the male viera mentoring? Do they even have shelter? Is there any real care for the kid's well-being, or are they told to just go out and try to survive. If it turns out the adult male viera is attentive and does carefully take care of the kids, then it must seem like one big daycare. Or is it more like a cold and distant relationship?
When it is revealed that a Viera kit is a male, it will be given into the care of another, that it may learn the ways of the Wood-warder─protectors of the forest. Once every three to five summers, male Viera will descend from the trees to a nearby village to mate. It is at this time, if there are any recently discovered jacks still living amongst the females, that the older male will make them his wards and teach them how to survive without the crutch of companionship.Do you have a source for where it says most of the children end up dying? Only following countless seasons of training and strict adherence to the Word of the Wood will the students themselves earn the title of master, and be allowed to seek solitude. More than few will perish during this brutal rite of passage, further thinning the tribe’s males, until only those with the strongest seed remain.
- Wandering Dramaturge
Yeah, the males have it extremely rough. I'm betting it's extremely cold and distant. You would have to be to keep doing this. You need a strong mentality.
It does seem silly. If the men are so rare they shouldn't be sending them out to defend the forest and to most likely die. Ladies you need to protect the men, you don't have a lot apparently. Get those heels in the forest and bring those boys home.
Also, this made me groan hard 'female run society so having the females be the muscle could be cute' - ScreaminggggGggGgGGG
Then the muscle should be doing forced bodyguard duty, reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
I know it's a joke but omg i hate it, how dare u
this going to keep me up at night
also I love that you straight up gave me a *fixes his nerd glasses* UMMMMMMMMM......actually!
A rite of passage... so it's like Naruto's chunin exams? lol
edit: hit post limit
Hmm ok after rereading it, here is what I understand
"Only following countless seasons of training and strict adherence to the Word of the Wood will the students themselves earn the title of master, and be allowed to seek solitude. More than few will perish during this brutal rite of passage, further thinning the tribe’s males, until only those with the strongest seed remain. "
It seems like the males live together only until they successful complete the rite of passage. So they do this rite together. After they become a master, they are allowed to seek solitude. So... do they have the option of not seeking solitude then?
I would not be surprised if some of the men, even the children, decided to abandon their duties. Of course, if they did that, the female viera who do adhere to the word of the wood would have no interest in them.
Still, just like there are some female viera who decide to become adventurer's, it wouldn't be surprising for some of the men to do the same.

Viera don't procreate often, likely due to their longevity. (we learn that they can live at least 3 times as long as elezen can somewhere along the MSQ, and elezen can live up to 200 years iirc). So babysitting is probably not a huge part of their job. This got me thinking - how many children do male viera mentor? They come down to the village and take the male children who are of age. Viera men stick together and defend the borders of their homelands from beasts and people alike, only rarely coming back into the female settlements for either trade or procreation. It's a rather time consuming gig, i gather. Their lore is a slightly more intense version of the Keeper of the Moon Miqo'te males.

*Inhales loudly through the nose.*
It certainly could be, but eh - can't go by Naruto's standards. Males who survive the passage and pick up the jacks etc are probably ancient males that are around 100+ years old and have done this rodeo multiple times. I just can't imagine it.
Have to laugh though a little bit. Female Viera demand the best bois.
It all makes me wonder if the writers would be bold enough to tell a story where viera society is dismantled and restructured in order to give the men a better deal. It kind of bothers me that they're willing to do stories involving the divide between the rich and the poor as well as pushing for drastic change in Garlemald, yet there's absolutely nothing in regards to the situation viera men face.
It'd be a great way to justify them being playable if they collectively decide to say 'screw it' to the status quo, especially if they find out that quite a few viera women are abandoning their duties to go off adventuring.
Though I suppose it's all wishful thinking. The writers play it very safe when it comes to certain plot elements.
