Male Viera as a playable character! show your support

So do you think they're discussing the addition of male viera around this time? And where did Yoshi P say they are starting on the next expansion? If they are discussing whether to add male viera or not, and are currently working on the next expansion, I guess this would be good news.


I think you should at least acknowledge the other post I made to you. I wrote it because you seemed confused, and I don't want you misinterpreting what I would like in the future.

Eh apparently it's just a claim someone made on reddit about some keynote at japan expo, but no verifiable source.
But I would not be surprised if it wasn't (given how long these things take to develop, and how strapped for time they were for ShB)

And lol any art budget being divvied out to mViera or fHrothgar is pure speculation at this point. But if they're working on the next expansion (which they should be), and if they intended to make both sexes available (which they said they were interested in many times), then if they were going to be working on them, the time would be now.

I would think they should be more focused on the current expansion at least for a whole year before they put to much effort into the next Expansion. But I guess who is to say they dont technically finish EVERYTHING by release then slowly unlock everything as they go, making patches along the way.

iirc, persistent games have a "live team" that takes care of the short term upkeep and polishing of near-future content, and then the big production team that takes care of all the huge features, concepts, art, story, and content systems for the next huge release.
If the teams are being managed correctly, (and despite my habitually blunt criticisms, I do have faith in our dear overlord producer/director to manage a team well) then the future project should not cause any trouble with the current content, and in-fact will help provide some sneak peeks at some future features. (werewolf shoes, ivalice, and tsukuyomi anyone?)

I acknowledge it. I have no beef with you. I still maintain that it'd help dispel misconceptions if the original post was tweaked but I'm not going to push for it. My primary concern is that they're added at some point, ideally with a 'forest elf' aesthetic. I want the potential to make them masculine and at least somewhat buff above all else as that is where my interest resides. I just don't want a case where 'anything goes' and they end up vastly different to the women just for the sake of being vastly different.

I would be all for the forest elf aesthetic.

And I think it's fine for you to want them to be buff and stuff.

I would have to agree with you here. Now would be the best time to work on male viera and female hrothgar only because more and more gear will be added to the game. I think it's a decision they must make swiftly - if they haven't already come to a decision yet.

Male Au Ra are tall, not 'huge' in the sense you are trying to convey. I don't know exactly what the point you are trying to make is here.

Well I meant tall. In the end if you want certain looks of characters, a lot of that can already be done ingame. So in the end that would mean that (if we take this as a reason) we should get no male Viera at all.

Edit: I am a bit confused? I remember quite clearly that some people posted that its much better to have Hrothgar than Viera because it would create more diversity since that kind of race is not in the game and that it will finally be more than just a human with animal parts...yet I stand corrected since seemingly when its about male Viera diversity is bad?

Anyway just like I always stated my vision of male Viera should just fit with the style of the females. Lets not have a race that will look like the genders belong to other races. As long as they manage that I can accept a long range of types, even if I still have of course my own favorite, which is the Omega type.

The Xaela seem to be based Mongolian tribes where the females are/were about 4'8-5'2, the Raen seem to be based on ancient Japan lifestyle, females there are also small and around the same height. It's not that the females are small. It's the fact the males are disgustingly tall. They have zero reason to be that tall.

At the same time, I’m willing to make some allowances for the FFXIV version suffering to their real life basis, eg in terms of protein availability etc. They wanted a somewhat bestial, slightly demonic looking race, but the females don’t deliver on it as much. I think if they’d just given them a height range like roegadames, say up to female highlander max height, it’d be less of a sore thumb.

That's probably the most accurate portrayal I've seen yet. I can see them more toned as the ladies are pretty toned themselves.

If the male version looked exactly like that I would race change. Prob the closest thing I will ever get to a body hair slider for all races.

Hey feel free to share your lore reasons. It would be a refreshing to hear considering all we're talking about is appearances right now.

Its slightly a spoiler, but it pretty much resonates with how the story is progressing back at the Source.
I do't know if Im saying this prematurely since Im only in the lv76 section of the MSQ (Although My Whm is just about lv80. Yay to roulette's and challenge log) but with the Threat the Empire poses for the Source to bring the next Calamity, it might be a good reason for the Viera Men to come out of hiding to help battle this threat.

I guess if they need a reason, same could go with the Hrothgar women to join the fight.
Although literally there is no reason for them not to be around save for Development time.

Makes sense. Surely a calamity would pose a threat to their wood. I don't see why male viera, or even female hrothgar for that matter, would not be there to help the cause - at the very least for their own sake.

And yet not to others such as myself. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Thus I maintain the breadth of the height slider is the better area to focus on if some of you want them shorter.

I forgot to address this, but I'll do that here.
In the end, it's just subjective. There doesn't need to be some sort of justification why the males are shorter than the females. Some people want them taller, some people want them shorter.
It would be nice to have a height slider that has a wider range of heights, but not anything crazy.

Viera females are Victoria's secret model sized warriors and they are powerful and deadly.

player base: I accept this!

other members of the player base: Maybe the men can be equally thin and a little smaller. It is a female run society so having the females be the muscle could be cute.

player base: no!!!! that doesn't make sense?! How can they be fierce warriors with out GIANT MUSCLES!!!! Kill who ever dare say that!!
