After all this, I gotta ask, what's the point in putting stats in the game at all then? Why not just turn it into a game of Street Fighter where accuracy is dependant solely on relative position and damage dependant on Light, Medium or Heavy Kick? Seriously, this is an RPG. Stats are meant to play a solid role in character progression.

Seems like a good question for SE.

I'm guessing you'd just get a generic answer though. "Stats affect the following; blah blah blah yada yada yada" and any small increase even .01% they would say is an effective increase.

Stats supplement skill and enhance performance. They play a solid role, they just aren't crucial to success. However, with good enough gear you can make up for what you lack in skill, and achieve better results if somebody likes that sort of thing. Speedruns can be interesting especially if the game encourages you to do them.

A solid role? lol... when I do 1,000 less damage over the course of the moogle fight when I wear 0 gear opposed to my double melded gear, then I would argue stats hardly make a difference.

1000 damage is nothing in a dynamic fight like this... 5 light shots or 1 barrage.

    Three questions:

1 - Your weapon was also a low level one?

2 - The rest of the team also did the fight on the same conditions?

3 - Did the battle end as quickly, easily and smoothly as usual?

Sorry to interject, but in regard to point 1: Weapons are one piece of gear among many. In regard to 2 and 3: It's already been proven that a fight can go well with appropriate weapons and the right strategy.

    1.) I fibbed a little, I wasn't technically naked - I had Ifrit's Bow and paragon helm.
2.) Everyone else was wearing their standard gear (i was getting b*tched @ for being nude)
3.) The only real difference I noticed was I was getting hit by the moogle for slightly higher numbers... like 650 instead of 500... not really that big of a difference.

    Then here's your explaination:

Most of the damage comes from the weapon. You shouldn't really notice a major drop in stat because you're lost 10~20DEX / PIE from taking your armor off. If the damage you received went from 500 to 650, that's a 30% increase against a regular attack, not exactly small. I bet that a on a stronger move (like Moogle Eye Shot), the difference was much higher. Not to mention the most dangerous moves in the fight are Pom Flare and Memento Moogle, two magical moves that ignore defense anyways.

You really shouldn't have that much higher DPS difference simply because, at best, you had to be healed more often (something that does not affect the actual damage you do) and lost a bit DPS from armor materia - again, far less relevant to your damage than your weapon.

Do it again with a weaker bow and arrows and you will see a major DPS drop.

Removing your defense gear in a battle where you can avoid most damage and the dangerous moves ignores defense anyways wouldn't really have a major effect on your DPS.

I don't disagree with you about the bow and arrow argument, no doubt if I used a level 1 bow and warped arrows my damage would be lowered. My argument is about the stats (like Dex, Pie, Str, Mnd, Vit..) because the 1.20 patch notes stated they directly affected damage. They even gave us that nice little chart.

If I increased a stat by 20~30, should I not see a difference in damage? Going from memory I think I have 238~ish DEX on my arc, so 20~30 dex is 10% more or less increase.

Anyway... I'm not trying to argue but again (to me at least) stats make very little difference in overall performance.
