    My 2c on the matter

    Skills:

Solace- It's... meh. It's really nice for a heal on the move, but other than that it feels really jarring to use. I like to have a spell cooking and this just gives me dead space after use. The same kind of goes for Misery.
Rapture- I actually like rapture and it's usually my go to for burning lilies for blood lily if I'm sitting on too many and I want to get a misery out for whatever reason.
Misery - About once every 3 packs or so... for kind of meh damage all things considering. I mean, the big number crits look really nice and it does wean the pack of mobs a little faster but.... ehhhhh? It's all right, but it's not great.
Temperance- While it's useful and I do use it. It's still insulting to be handed a skill at level 80 that comprises of skills that were taken away from us. It's even more insulting when NPC conjurers continue to cast stoneskin and Benison is... still worse imo.
Plenary is garbage now and I barely even touch it anymore. Old version was better =/

    Soloing / Solo duties-
About as much fun as watching paint dry. I get a lily or two per kill and I see other jobs just shredding mobs down. I mean... it literally takes me like twice to three times as long to kill something as a DPS does. Is that reasonable? Sure, but it doesn't make for engaging gameplay when you have to spam the same spell 10-12+ times to kill a normal mob. The duties take a long time with all the waves and as a healer it's just.... UGH. I can only imagine the pain SCH and ASTs feel in these duties and.... I dunno tanks had some AoE upgrades so maybe its not so bad for them anymore?

Overall, the fights and dungeons are fun, but the healing aspect hasn't changed, the damage hasn't changed, and it's remained more or less the same for all the expansions so far which makes the job itself feel bland... and to me that seems wrong when so many other jobs have had major changes and facelifts-- MCH for example (though I will not claim that they are fixed/awesome/etc.). No more throwing stones, but throwing little white balls over and over and over again... For not having a new healer job and supposedly getting a balance change-- one which should have been dedicated to healers because tanks are supposedly balanced now. It does not feel like they came through for WHM and especially not for any other healer.

    Yes, exactly.

We aren't supposed to melt things down as fast as a dps does. A dps has to finish the fight as quickly as possible because they can't keep themselves alive in longer fights. We can, and the trade off there is that we don't hit as hard.

My hubby and I play together. He finishes solo duties first a lot because he melts things down, but sometimes he just squeaks by with a sliver of health. Whereas I take longer but I have full health or near full health at the end. The unreasonable thing would be to expect that we can have that capability of keeping ourselves alive AND putting out anywhere near the same dps as an actual dps. That would be far too overpowered.

Which is why literally in the next sentence I said that it made sense for it to be that way. But whereas they have many skills to utilize, I have 1 that I need to cast 10-12 times to kill the mob. That's not exactly engaging gameplay.

"Then what is magic for?" Prince Lir demanded wildly. "What use is wizardry if it cannot save a unicorn?"
Schmendrick did not turn his head. With a touch of sad mockery in his voice, he said, "That's what heroes are for."

Because our engaging gameplay is supposed to be related to our healing role.

When someone suddenly dips below half, we have plenty of tools to respond to that. We can Solace, Tetra, Benison, Assize, or stack Regen/Med2/Asylum depending on the serverity of the situation. Benediction exists too for when a GNB decides to pop Superbolide w/o warning and for no reason (Someone did this to me in Shisui last night lol).

Cool story. Are they going to go back and redesign the ~98% of the game's content where that is currently not a reality?

I seriously don't get people like you. Why is it that because I enjoy playing healers and that I choose to be a healer does it mean that I cannot have a fun and engaging experience in all aspects of a game including solo play? It's 2019. We should be allowed to expect more from game designers than age old tropes from the 1980s. There are plenty of other games out there that do this, FFXIV should not get special consideration.
