Sophie: The Empire took everything from me─my family, my homeland. With nowhere else to go, the two of us decided we'd stand a better chance of surviving if we stuck together. And here we are.

It seems Viera in the Source are being killed and subdugated by the Empire - this coincides well with comments regarding the 'hares being rounded up' when talking to some fellow during the 24man. Now Sophie was part of the resistance, I'm unsure if she was from the wood itself. But yes, she states that her family, as well as her homeland, was taken from her. A possibility that Viera populate outside of the wood, have families? That whole family units leave the wood? Or that the Imperials went into the wood and slaughtered them.

Is she referring to Dalmasca? Or the Wood? Because if she was a Viera who left the latter she can't return, so the subjugation of Dalmasca means she'd have nowhere to go.
