Actually knowing what it means is a whole other kettle of fish. I think most people have heard of a poop deck, but ask them to define what it is and you'll get more scatological explanations than nautical.

I don't think it's most people... I never heard of it before omega and a few pages back more people expressed thoughts almong mine. That is an outdated term and is not in most peoples train of thought. I mean unless you ive on a boat or something then that's a different story.. but in the city of chicago... noone in the south side of the bricks is throwing those terms around. Tho now that'll be funny if GD's and whatever their rival gang is started using it. Be kindof funny.

Really has nothing to do with being "Educated", it's simply a word used on a nich situation, and I don't get why SE used it as translation.
It's really hard to react on the spot to have to first deduct the meaning of the word to figure out if it's left/right/front/behind and then get it in my language.
It becomes easier the more you do the patterns etc, but seriously, "left" and "right" would have been hard enough.

Unfortunately they were nautical in Japanese as well so we were going to get nautical terms just Koji/translation term for whatever reason decided to use an outdated term instead of Port >_>

Larboard cast... everyone on the left got nuked... Stsrboard cast... evrryone on right got nuked... ahh, okay, Larboard hits left, starboard hits right... ahh.

It even telegraphs in the normal mode. No reason to be an idiot, tbh.

Or ooor.... we could use a normal term that everyone on the planet uses thats up to date. No need for name calling damn. It'll be one thing if people were asking for it to not do the move. Thats not what was being talked about. I'm not even saying it's still a problem NOW. what I AM saying is those terms tripped alot of people up when it was new and that wouldn't have happened if it simply used left right up and down. Is it that hard to understand or do we need to call everyone a moron cause SE used out of date terms? It's not the players fault SE used something so out of touch and date. Pretty much this. Also, pretty sure people can't even get the "Left blade" and "Right blade" right in A11. People still get hit by that and it straight up tells you.

Hell, people fail the stack mechanic still.... How many times in like, level 70 raids have you seen someone run away when the stack appears over their head.

To be fair... I never seen Larboard or starboard before so I got tripped up so hard there. WHY COULDN'T IT BE JUST FREAKING LEFT AND RIGHT SQUARE!!!!!!

There is a left and right in the ivalice raid and people can't dodge that, it's not the wording it the ability to read the "casting" bar on top of the enemy hp bar that people struggle with. Why do you think no one tanks? You have to know when a buster is coming to swap or buff.
