We haven't had that scene because you seem to be mistaking the First for the Source. The Source, at the moment, is relatively fine. There is chaos and there is the quelling of chaos - and so long as that continues and/or so long as Hyde and Zodi are in conflict, there will be some semblance of balance keeping (our) world as it is.

As such, our world (the Source) is not under any immediate threat from Light/Dark (yet), only threats posed by the Empire/Ascians (who work in the name of Dark, for the most part). I suspect Gaius and Estinien will serve as our MSQ-Eyes to the progress of the Ascian/Empire story on the Source while we are on the First fighting against Light, giving plenty of time and means to prepare some dastardly deeds in the name of Darkness while the WoL/D is busy. As would be expected of an MMORPG not facing shutdown, the show must go on, so I suspect that once we've dealt with the First, we'll come back to plenty of new troubles on the Source, likely thanks to Black Rose and more Ascian/Empire shenanigans in the name of sowing the seeds of Chaos.

Meanwhile, the First is where the Warriors of Darkness came from. They were essentially the First's equivalent to ourselves, Warriors of Light fighting in the name of Hyde, WoL's who won all their battles and quelled all threats of Darkness, and thus inadvertently caused the flood of light on their world.

As you've seen from the end of that quest-chain, Emmisary-Filia was created thanks to the light/crystals that the WoL/Scions and WoD's brought together, and thus our EmmiFilia claimed she would go to the First to stop the flood - things you can see in the new ShB E3 trailer. There is also a time-bubble of sorts seeing as events on the first have been raging for practically a century, whereas our EmmiFilia left not that long ago by comparison in our time-line. There is also a massive possibility that, yes, the previous fracturing/sundering has indeed created somewhat of a mirror of worlds (and its inhabitants), such as us meeting an NPC at the start of ShB who is practically identical to the brothers we meet when starting in ARR, or the WoD's themselves, who were carbon-copies of the NPC's you see in the 1.0/ARR Flames of Truth, even though they're not the same people, or the fact that we'll be dealing with not one, but two Minfilia's. It was also blatantly stated that what Urianger foresaw leading up to the appearance of Arbert and the WoD's was 'the future', so it'll be a little wibbly-wobbly-timey-wimey, but the most important detail is to remember that the expansion does not take place in our world.

Ours is in a recovery period. We've dealt with the empire/ultima for the most part, assisted the Dragonsong War, assisted in liberation of Doma/Mhigo etc, and countless other issues, yet the land is still rife with conflict between the Alliance/Beastmen, the threat of primal summonings, the Empire, the Ascians etc.

Oh. So SB2 is essentially an inversion of Majora's Mask? An alternative world of reused assets and a land suffering from a great evil light?
