Because the "all or nothing" of having to level all crafts to be good in any is soooooo engaging and fun lol. Crafting is insane in this game and I have to wonder if the people who defend the system do anything besides craft lol. The shit needs toned down and made more easily accessible to everyone.
Calling people "elitist" because they like the current system (which, by the way, I absolutely adore and is hands down one of my favorite parts of the game) isn't really lending any credit to your argument. "I don't like this thing so it's bad". What kind of system would you like to see, OP? If things were to change, how would you want them to change?
While I'm here, a couple of nitpicks: saying it's like XI crafting is entirely untrue, there was no actual "making" involved with XI crafting. If your crafter was of level, you got your mats, you pressed the button, and you prayed you got that HQ. There was no "mini-game" or anything! I hated crafting in XI. Also, IRL crafting absolutely uses different materials. Just think of a pair of shoes, how many different kinds of materials go into them. The shoe itself, to the sole, the lining, etc.
I have all my crafters at 70, hate leveling them with a passion, but i dont think it should change. That'd be like saying that every dungeon should be savage level, because some people like hard content. or the entire game should be easy as heck, cuz other people like easy stuff.
I have all 70 crafts too. I just agree with OP that the system is fundamentally flawed and not good at all in terms of getting newer players to craft. Ny main schtick is the rotations. I find it pretty retarded that you have Google some 30 step BS rotation to craft HQs, and that even needing macros for a side aspect of the game like crafting is absurd. I'll agree leves and tribes make the lvling process easy. But the way DoH and DoL function is just asinine.I have all my crafters at 70, hate leveling them with a passion, but i dont think it should change. There are people who like crafting.

My take on FFXIV is that there are so many activities that you don't need to focus on all of them. If you don't enjoy the crafting game you don't have to do it. It certainly doesn't stop you from progressing your story or make gearing harder. You can play triple triad or majong or run chocobo races. You can PVP or play Rival Wings or that minion game. I don't think every activity in here is intended for every audience member. So, I mess with crafting only minimally, I don't feel any deep pit in my heart because it's not my thing. If they rework it to remove interdependencies it would be inline with what they did for combat classes, but I don't think it would really affect me too much.Because the "all or nothing" of having to level all crafts to be good in any is soooooo engaging and fun lol. You don't NEED macros, anymore than you NEED guides for raids. Its just the time saver. You can absolutely craft everything without macros. Macro's also require a large amount of stats because tis 100% automated, where you can get away with freehanding it with lesser stats by making use of procs.I have all 70 crafts too. Majong is pure cancer but I understand your point lol. Literally the only part of my challenge log in GS that goes untouched every week.My take on FFXIV is that there are so many activities that you don't need to focus on all of them. The leveling system is flawed and confusing at times. If you got the money you can just power lv through leves but aside from that the possibilites are kinda limited. To do good collectibles you need good gear that also requires money. From a begginer point of view it is impossible to lv up a crafter before having at least 3 DoW/DoM at max lv. And of course, streamers usually get free passes because people just give then gil from nowhere. I saw a streamer girl last week at lv 40ish and sprout with 5 million gil.
I really want to craft more but the roadblocks are bigger, beast tribe quests were a good start, we need more options like that.
The levelling process was the easiest most passive thing I've done in an MMO.
Just hand a few items over to your GC once a day. Maybe some moogles depending on your level.
It's basically free exp while I go about my day doing other things.
