The loss of Shield Swipe

• It's used for Sheltron, which I use all of the time for tank busters and MP regen.
• It's used for Bulwark, which is useful for big pulls but will be merged into Sheltron.
• It's used for Passage of Arms, to look really good during phase transitions.
• It's used for Shield Bash, if you want to save yourself in low level content by stunning everything.
• Shield Bash is great in PvP.
• It's used for Shield Swipe until 5.0.
• You randomly block attacks without noticing.

Well that's 8% of the time.

What about the other 92%?

I tend to agree with this:

Really anything that binds defense and offense together to be mutually beneficial is being slowly removed from the game.

More than this:

That being said, there's been a move over the past two expansions away from moves that preferentially benefit you when you're actively tanking. The progressive nerfs to Blood Price and its eventual removal are another example of this. The one exception to this rule, of course, is Vengeance.

SCH is another example where they disconnected the offense/defense utility of a skill(s) with the removal of Bane and Energy Drain. Now their stacks are only used for heals, not dps and/or heals.

It was probably a similar situation with Shield Swipe since you could indirectly use it for damage increases while off tanking.

how will the lvl 35 DRK jobquest that rewards you with darkside upon completion be adjusted? you get your darkside skills at 30 and 40 in 5.0 so...

It's a level 30 quest, so there is no problem. It should reward Flood of Darkness instead.
