Yeah I was baffled by that change in 5.0 as well, yet shield bash is still in the PLD kit. Honestly Bash should've been axed and swipe kept in IMO.

I’m quite sad to see a lot of skills that encourage tanks to use their mitigation for offence are going. Cause as we all know, dps is everything. Shield swipe used to encourage blocking to proc those counters, upheaval used to encourage thrill of battle for the increased hp to increase damage.
Now all we have left is counter attacks on vengeance and the blackest night being dps neutral as things that encourage the use of defensive skills.
Man I'll miss it in 5.0
Honestly i dont know how they are going to change a lot of the quests with all the deleted skills. They play a role in so many of the quest lines i dont know how they will ret con them.
How did they handle the simple marauder quests that requires you to use brutal swing on rocks as the actual quest objective since they deleted it for example. Has anyone done the old tank quests lately?

how will the lvl 35 DRK jobquest that rewards you with darkside upon completion be adjusted? you get your darkside skills at 30 and 40 in 5.0 so...Honestly i dont know how they are going to change a lot of the quests with all the deleted skills. Yeah there are tons of examples since they are quest rewards, or directly tied to the quests story/lore. I was just curious about brutal swing because it might give a hint of how they addressed that issue in the past and probably do something similar when expac drops for the mountain of quest issues that will pop up

It's a level 30 quest, so there is no problem. It should reward Flood of Darkness instead.

They replaced the skill you had to use. Instead of Brutal Swing, you use Skull Sunder. (I haven't done it since ARR, but looked it up on Garland Tools)
Which, obviously, won't work for actual dialogue references for certain skills:
Such as MCH's job quests talking about Reloading their special Ammo to enhance their attacks.
GLD talking about Shield Swipe.Originally Posted by Rostnsthal

AST talking about literally the entire basis of the job and the different cards and the constellations that they represent and their meaning across basically all of their 30-60 quests and then being reprised again in the level 60-70 quests where you teach the Geomancer about them too...Originally Posted by Aldis
Ah, that's right─I wanted to teach you something before I go, Forename.
If you strike an opponent with your shield immediately after blocking his attack, you can disorient him, rendering him incapable of using his own special techniques. It's a trick I call Shield Swipe.
I won many bouts on the bloodsands using this strategy, including my last match against Leavold seven years ago. If it hadn't been for that match, I would have never... He begged me to lose that day, said we'd win a sultan's ransom...but I just couldn't do it.
It takes complete confidence in your abilities to master it─but you do not want for confidence, do you? You've risked your life when victory was anything but certain, and proven yourself to be an incredible gladiator. Never lose that fighting spirit, Forename.
