I want to address the "you can't tell the gender when they're young" part of the lore, that's true in human children as well around that age. It's a very throwaway statement.
When has it ever been said we’re going to the viera homeland? Except for the city of fat miqo’te, all of the nations of the First have been destroyed. The Crystarium is new. Regardless, in an interview Yoshi or someone else said they wanted to see roegadyn children first.

Speaking of the Crystarium, did anyone else notice that in the video being passed around from the tour that there is a much higher percentage of male miqo’te running around? I guess the cats of the First got around the gender problem.
