While I’m not discounting any of what Koreans suffered while under Japanese occupation, both outfits are still worn today in Japan. You can easily find shops where you can rent both men’s and women’s outfits to wear, and the women’s one in particular is still worn during University graduations (some look almost identical to the one in mogstation). Variations of the men’s outfit (sans the hat), which looks very similar to the one in the mogstation, are still worn as well for other occasions. Comparing it to the offensiveness to Nazi imagery is an unfair comparison and a misrepresentation of the actual issue.

(rental shop example & graduation example)

What I find most troubling is that the OP has only edited the first post with content that furthers her own argument, while disregarding Alcoholic_Beverage’s reply with the response during the Korean PLL that shows the issue was not the clothing itself, but just the naming of the items on the Chinese server.

OP I recommend copying this link as it's a pastebin link I made for the original quote https://pastebin.com/gUcBedTS and putting in your first post. Will help newcomers out very much so and hopefully be enough for the mods to close the thread as we know this was blown far out of proportion.

You remove the politics out of this and you've just described what it is like to be a child. Children are not given much autonomy or freedom and are constantly forced to wear certain types of clothes against their own will or even personal culture. Any school with a dress code or uniform does exactly what you describe. A Japanese-American can't just come to school in a kimono.

    ...they can't? *not an American*

    *edit*

Cartoons and sitcoms taught me you guys can wear whatever you want as long as it's not inappropriate, my childhood was a lie

Uh, no. Most US high schools have uniforms now, so no, they can't. They are forced to wear western polo shirt/khaki pant as the same with everyone.

If the school has dress code or uniform, then no. Even a few decades ago, it was taboo to even wear shorts to school. Some schools don't have uniforms or strict dress codes but at the same time, children rarely get to choose which schools they get to attend.
Children don't have much power over their own lives, even in the land of the free. Korean children couldn't wear what they wanted in school in the 30's? Well, that's not exactly different from most other countries apart from perhaps the punishments.

None of the schools around where I grew up near ST Louis, at least public schools, had school uniforms, but I can't speak for the whole country.

My understanding is that private schools have uniforms... But then again public schools are somewhat of a rarity in the US.

But for the Mog Station outfits in question, so it was mostly just a matter of bad marketing decisions from the Chinese team of FF XIV, and I'd say it also comes down to whether it was something they only made foreigners to wear or was it just something more or less everyone had to wear...

Reposting this so it gets noticed by the OP.
