That’s why I always feel it’s best to never say anything around mixed company in an mmo thar you wouldn’t say in front if a 4 year old. People can get offended over anything and everything, so best to self sensor unless you are privately chatting with someone you know well in a channel that only you and that person or people can see.

I mean I feel tons of people play it fast and loose with their accounts. I always see people using “offensive language” in duties, but it’s essentially always just normal chatting. Can’t say I’ve really ever see anyone actually attack anyone with that language, but that doesn’t matter, all it takes is one stick in the mud to report you for harmless banter with your friends, and you’ll have a sanction against your account.

Problem with that idea is that I've gotten reports/information that even in those settings, people have been reported. Or, as I voiced before, there's a substantial amount of roleplayers in this game. Roleplaying in a certain degree requires you to be public/involved with people you may not entirely know yet, so therefore knowing what you can and cannot say is crucial.

Just assume everything is offensive. Don't say any curse words, and if you want to be aggressive, be as passive as possible.

If you want to RP like that, probably gonna have to take it out of game, otherwise there are going to be logs a GM can just pull up.

This goes for the forums too. Don't say any profanity, don't even elude to it, they will drop the hammer down on you, hard.

That's the pragmatic, smart thing to do for me as an individual.

Which doesn't mean that I will support nor condone it. And if the game ends up teaching people it's better to be 'passive aggressive', then yeah.. quite sure that's not the right message to send lol.

Hey I don't agree with it, but it's better safe than sorry. I have personal experience of this...

I will completely backspace an entire response in game if I think it qualifies as "profanity". There have been times I just wanted to say some slang, or cuss a bit like a regular adult does in regular life, but I'll look at my chat and just delete it. Not worth risking my account. Profanity filter or not. If you get in a spout with anyone assume they will report you (they usually do).

Pretty much. If I'm going to say anything...colorful, it's best to be around friends who couldn't care less and who do the same. That is the approach I take. When I'm around random strangers at all I try to be as polite as possible, or at the very least not offensive.
