Male Viera as a playable character! show your support

I would find it so bad to have them as NPCs in the game but never give the players the chance to play them. At least with beast tribes both genders cant and at least they have some reasons to not be playable. But a race that exists, is human enough, can go around the cities and that has one gender available to play and then just put the rest out of NPCs? Thats just horrible.

I mean its like the bunny suit. Have none in the game: Maybe some people request it as glamour. Have one for one gender: Opposite site might want it. Have one for one gender and put it on the NPC but not for the players: Huge storm incoming. I mean how bad would it be to have certain glamours that males wanted but instead of giving them to the playerbases like the females got, they can see it only on NPCs? And I would dare and say that races are much bigger than that.

So only NPCs if they can provide it later for us, otherwise you will just make a full blown out rage storm.

The thing is that they even said that they knew that adding Fran but no playable female Viera would just cause backlash thus they decided that if they use her then they have to make the race too. Which is my point: If you use the missing genders then dont turn around, say that we as players wont ever get to play them and be surprised at the storm you just released with that.

Seems to me that the choice to add Fran to the game was the result of choosing to make Viera playable, as it would be a great intro to the race.

Would love a source on that though. Sounds like a mighty bold claim.

They said that Hrothgar (with both genders) was first but then were uncertain because Viera was wanted too and because Fran would be part of the raid they decided to give us female Vieras instead of female Hrothgar.

But of course I might remember this wrong but in my mind this was one point which was discussed abit when the talk happened of "who will we do first".

Well I have looked at different sides and searched a bit and the only information about that was an interview where he stated that Viera came first and then he told the raid designer that they can put Fran in. Its really a bit confusing because in that interview they said that they 100% wanted to do Viera while other interviews make it sound like they wanted to do a beast race but knew that people would want to have Viera too thus decided to at least give them female ones..

In the end even just with this interview it was kinda hinted that Fran was only used because they decided to do the Viera race.

So.. Cart before the horse there. We got fran because they were making Viera. Not Viera because they had fran.

It's a little nit picky, but I think that's an important point. Fran was a result, not a cause. Especially as she was a fully realized and unique model using NPC rather than a slapped together one-and-done.

Yes at least in this interview. (Its really a bit confusing on what came first) But at least this shows that they only included her after it was decided to give us the female Vieras. Which is still in my reasoning. Dont give us NPCs if you dont want to also give it to us as playable race. Otherwise people will even more just see what they will never get.

I would really like to see the math on how 2 years of development of a race can be profitable based purely on sells of a $10 item then all that time and effort could have been directed at the many other items people grab up on the Mogstation and the fact that they give potions out for free.

Hell, if you have played this game long enuff back when the potion was a vet reward any new character you make gets a free potion from start. I can (and will) make an alt right now and prep it for converting into my Raid server Hrothgar and not have to spend a dime on it to race change in ShB.

Well they are profitable in more than fantasia sales. Some might not have had interest in the game until they saw the new race. Some might have lost interest in the game but might at least start to play a bit more with the new race. Then you have the Mog station glamour that would not have looked good on their characters before but with the new ones its perfect in their eyes thus buy it.

And lets not forget that there are addicts in this game. Some might just use the free fantasia and never much change.(But if they dont give another free fantasia then this could mean that even those might need to buy one too) Some are changing constantly. For example: You have someone that loves two races and cant decide which to play, so they swap around every two weeks or every month. Now another new race is introduced and they love that too. Of course it can simply mean that they will stick to their plan and only do the change like they did before, but they could also add to it and increase the amount of changes. Thus more money.

These people that change so often might at the same time not buy much from the mog station (and you are still kinda hindered with adding huge amount of items in there or you will anger your customerbase too much)
