    Lore-wise, Allagans and Allagan magic tends to use the traditional naming system because of how old that stuff is.

    Xande uses Ancient Quaga, Amon uses Firaga, Blizzaga, and Thundaga variations, the cloned thaumaturges in ARF use Breakga, etc. Meanwhile, anything not Allagan in origin use the numbers (even Exdeath and Kefka).

    The actual reason is that the suffix system of spell tiers could confuse players new to the franchise and so they went with a more straightforward naming.

    I also don't like the idea of [Spell] V because of the localization. What would Fire V be in a region that doesn't use the number system? "Just make one up," sure, but then a precedent is placed on future games that use a fifth-tier that isn't Flare/Freeze/Burst/etc (which basically are the fifth-tier spells for that element, sometimes they even become the fourth-tier spell).

    Anyway, more on topic, Fire's a bit lackluster, but it's function is fine for what we have now. I'd make additions to other things that BLM has so that those affect how Fire behaves:

    Firestarter Trait:
    Each Fire also increases Firestarter chance on the next Fire by an additional 20%, ensuring Firestarter activation on every Fire onward after a set amount of casts as long as Firestarter is not used.
    Enochian:
    While Enochian is active, Fire no longer refreshes Astral Fire, but increases its potency by 20.
    However, the Enochian change also implies that Fire IV no longer works like how it does, such as it becoming an oGCD, so that it can pass on that aspect of it to Fire.

    (I've been playing around with the idea of Fire IV becoming an oGCD for a while now and how that changes everything, so these changes are taken from what I've come up with from that.)

    across Square Enix games there are more than just -ra,-ga, and -ja. You also have -da and -za which the first time I remember seeing that was in Kingdom Hearts.

    -da normally fits between -ra and -ga true, but could be higher. I'm not 100% sure where -za would fit

    I'd rather see Fire remain separate, but more usefully and interestingly integrated.

    Ideally, I'd like to see more to AF phase than just an F3 to start, three F4s, a Fire, and three more F4s. Just swapping out the last F4 for Despair doesn't cut it for me.

    I don't think we're cutting out the last Fire 4.

    The new MP cap should leave us with 1200, or 12% MP left. I believe we currently need something closer to 8% mana to cast Flare, and there's no reason to think Despair will be any different.

    We're probably looking at 3/1/3/Despair

    It looks like Despair needs the full amount of MP so not sure how it could work after all of the Fire IVs. I mean it's not like Flare where the MP currently is "All" as opposed to an actual number in this case.

    You can see the black mage in the job trailer cast the spell after Fire 4. There is no scenario where Fire 4 is free.

    The simplest explanation is that the text for Despair and Flare have changed to reflect your current MP pool but still has a minimum cast point.

    Edit: Also is it just me, or does 6% spell speed as an entry point seem rather large?

    Machinist seems to be rocking the same amount.

    I saw Blizz IV be used before the Despair chain so possibly it benefits from Umbral Hearts like Flare. Although seeing as it was only used it once before the Foul finisher, it could get no benefit at all and just use all remaining MP, if so that's like one Despair per Fire rotation, thought it could be more.

    Flare already (and has since 2.0) listed your current MP as its cost, unless your MP is lower than the cost of Fire I, in which case it lists the cost of Fire I and you can't cast it. This being the case, if ShB maintains the current cost design, it would replace the last Fire IV (Fire, Flare, and Fire IV have the same base cost).
