If art is posted here, it can safely be critiqued. Especially if it's creepy and/or samey. Furthermore, some of it is objectively pushing the boundaries as to what is considered to be acceptable within polite society.

The function of critique is to improve the quality of something and only has real value if the creator(s) of the work or works is receiving said critique. Critique is also only really critique if it offers objective and actionable suggestions for improvement. You're not doing that. You're criticizing (different word here) work that other people than the original creators are posting to the forums by calling it "creepy." That is not critiquing. You also use the word "samey." What does that even mean? Do you want multiple different people to draw drastically different ideas of the same concept? Maybe they all think about it in similar ways. It's fanart of an existing idea based off of what we are being shown already. Again, "samey" is not good critique. You can't just say something is X without any explanation and call it critique.

You appear to be more interested in controlling the narrative than allowing feedback. I wonder why that is? My opinions are my own. If people stop posting artwork that is pushing the boundaries of what is considered to be acceptable within polite society then I will have little need to comment. It shouldn't bother you at all, in fact. Thankfully we can all take comfort in the fact that I am not easily deterred, so the attempts to shut down opposing viewpoints or wear me down will not work.

Thank you for this explanation. Too many people think they can insult art and get away with it under the guise of "critique". Some users try very hard to paint their negative attitudes as allowable in the lense of critique or opinions, but both of these things can and should be expressed in a way that is polite to all involved.

Let's not beat around the bush. You're only thanking him because it reinforces your own narrative and attempts to stamp out opposing viewpoints. More than a few posters have come forward to point out that the art in question is creepy, so it isn't an uncommon point of view. As I mentioned earlier, if you show random people in the street the art they'll no doubt express discomfort and a measure of contempt. At least in regards to the genuinely unsettling art pieces!

They're facts. I can promise you that. Why don't you print out a copy of the art in question and hand them out to random people on the street to see how they react? That'd be a fascinating revelation for some within this thread, I suspect!

I don't know, I try not to be too judgmental about art stuff. Art is a complicated thing, some of it is going to be off-putting to people and that's okay. There is a lot of art out there that would make random people on the street uncomfortable. Like, take any of the art/design work that goes into the Silent Hill games for instance. That stuff is going to trigger a reaction of disgust in most people if they have no context or appreciation for it.


So I don't know if we can really use "what random people on the street would think" as a baseline for judging stuff. :v You're going to get a real narrow perception of what is acceptable if you do that. I mean, if you print out a picture of an ascian and showed that to random people you'd get a lot of people thinking it was something satantic.

I doubt most people would even care tbh. Most people don't play MMOs and therefore couldn't give any less of a hoot about this stuff. And since you're so concerned about the modesty of our dear game, why not ask for more conservative racial gear for roes and the existing Viera/Hrothgar? Or how about the Emperor's New armor set? What about the myriad of skimpy armor that can be worn by both genders? Are those bad too? Do those make FFXIV look bad as well?

A lot of people aren't at all bothered by exposed skin, so long as it is tied to characters that look to be of legal age. I suspect some of those taking issue with the use of the word 'creepy' to describe such things are irritated that their dog whistling is being called out. MMO's attract some genuinely terrifying individuals after all, who get up to some very sinister things online!
