That's cute, but as has been stated in this thread before, the lore excuse is VERY easily disproven and always falls flat on its face. As to your own personal prejudice against it, that's a matter of opinion. I personally find female miqote and au ra to be some of the cringiest character options in the game. But do I begrudge those who want to play as them? Do I demand that Square remove them from the game? No, cause that would be immature. If other people like playing those options, more power to them. Here's an idea for you should male Viera end up being added: Don't play as one.

I keep asking these questions with no answers but still people persist on the lore arguments.


I still question the validity of the 'Lore' keeping Viera males forever in the forest. Especially since ffxiv has it own lore separate from 12 and the other Ivalice games.

What's the lore behind them never leaving? What compels them from puberty to old age to never even think about leaving? It's more unbelievable that not a single Male in all of history from birth to death has never deviated from the cultural norm.

Are they indoctrinated in some nefarious scheme? Do they hunt down their own if the ever try to escape? Is it a spell or some magic that binds them? Do they all just think alike and aren't individuals at all?

To me a lot of the reasons that would keep them all, every single last Male without deviation, without question would feel somehow insidious. If they aren't individual's at all but more feral beings who only act on instinct and nature, then that's the whole men are beasts woman are breasts dichotomy and that's really gross. (And you can't say it wouldn't because the Viera reveal video was nearly soft core in its sexy bunnies ladies running around in their lingerie giggling.)

Where is their freewill? If they don't have freewill then who or what is taking it? Isn't generally seen as bad to strip people of their freewill? Why do they not have the freewill to choose?
Who is taking their freewill in this? Isn't it bad to take someone's choice away?

Every member of a populace conforming exactly to their culture cus reasons is highly unbelievable. And remember, as I said, ffxiv has it's own lore separate from 12 and The other Ivalice titles and so things ARE different!

Theres also the fact that the WoL is the exception to the rule, to all the rules. From being the only non Padjal White mage, to killing gods left and right easily. Being the only way to save the world from Alexander to defeating all of Omegas tests and Omega themselves. The WoL is the ultimate exception!

The only lor that matters is what lore is available in game. Of that lore, male viera's are only discussed very very briefly by a background NPC. It is summed up that male Viera's are reclusive and extremely hostile to intruders and live separately from female Vieras. Their function is that of forest protector.

That's about it. The lore is something of a cliff notes version of lore from other FF games regarding male viera.

There is currently no lore in the game that states there cannot be male viera through changes in world events, cultural changes, or misunderstandings from the NPCs regarding male Viera. Even the devs have said hat NPCs themselves are not the end all be all of lore, and they too can be wrong about the information (which is pragmatic cause it allows the devs to make changes more easily.)


The lore from any other game is irrelevant unless it is specifically stated that FFXIV is a direct continuity of a previous FF game (which thus far it hasnt been stated.) Even the Ivalice raid isnt a 100% recreation of the lore from previous FF games. There are alterations. If anything, it is more an homage than a direct copy/paste.

If you dont like some of the fanart being posted here, simply ignore it. Dont need to comment on every piece being posted in here. When people post big burly muscled Viera fanart, I just ignore it as well and post fanart I like instead.

Art is art and there should be no restriction. Creativity is not obliged to please everyone. Art exists to express fantasy, feelings and a meaning. Also its a great message to SE that actually people create alot of Viera/Hrothgar fanart to express their own feelings.

Also, it doesnt matter what people prefer. There should be a certain body type with multiple faces, like they do exist on current races. Let people design their characters after. Nobody should have an influence how you or me wants to customize their male Viera. If they want to go brutal jungle assassin, add the certain face. If they want to play bishounen model, let them.

If art is posted here, it can safely be critiqued. Especially if it's creepy and/or samey. Furthermore, some of it is objectively pushing the boundaries as to what is considered to be acceptable within polite society.
