At this point they should just not add any new race to 5.0 till later on in it. That give them time to make female and male races for both and create head gear they don't have yet for ether race. What Is point to bring out race if don't even have gear done for them yet.
If we all know what is being inferred, then arguing about "unlocking" or "removing a lock" is pointless. It's like arguing the exact word is an issue, and not the core idea.
Also, from the player perspective, yes, you are locked into either female Viera, or Male Hrothgar. That distinction matters because there is an expectation that the game set through precedence that is being violated. You dont get a choice here where you do otherwise. It matters little if the assets exist or not, but rather what the player is seeing. If you change genderlock to mean it from the devs point of view by arguing the implication is the assets exist and therefore are locked by the devs, the player's expectations no longer matter, only what the dev wants. This shifts the discussion to whether we should even ask for the other genders, or if the devs need to even consider it. The extreme end of that change is "Anyone asking for male viera and female hrothgar is entitled and should just enjoy what the devs are giving us." It becomes an immediate dismissal of the core issue by making people seem ultra entitled rather than addressing where player expectations were not met.
I also never said that there wouldnt be implementation time. I think people demanding it now are being nuts about it. Of course there is development time, even if the assets were 99% there, it still takes time to implement. It's not a checkbox. I dont worry about that because that is such a minor point. I know why the devs did it, but it is apparent that giving half measures isnt what the player base wanted broadly. It was a misstep on the devs part, and people addressing the issue by summerizing it as the races being genderlocked implies that the player expectation was violated. If its the other way (dev perspective) then people have to request and the devs can go "we'll think about it."
Best way I can point this difference out is to look at things we request vs things we expect. It was expected we would have a male/female of one race, it is not expected we will have an update to character creator. The push back for when our expectations arent met is a lot harsher than when we would like to see something in game. And mind you, the expectations got ramped way the heck up when they showed off the viera. A lot of us were pointing out it would be most likely a huge disappointment to the base if they didnt give us Male Viera because the expectations have always been male and female of a race since ARR (which set that precedence compared to 1.0).
Well since this thread has a handful of different topics being discussed, I guess I'll start with the OP. I don't suppose I have to point anyone to the existing male Viera and female Hrothgar threads, seeing as someone already did so on the 10th page or so (and them being repeatedly bumped on the 1st page). Based on how brief the actual OP's message is and making the assumption to be the voice on what the "majority" presumably wants- seems like just another opinionated person fishing for "likes" rather than inviting discussion...
...And thanks for removing all doubt! And additionally, people disagreeing with you or having an opposing opinion doesn't make them "toxic" by default. I know people like to drop that buzzword to attempt to instantly discredit opposition when they can't be bothered to try to hold a discussion with someone who doesn't agree with them. Sure, there's some snark and sarcasm abound, but let's not pretend both sides aren't flinging that around. But I guess I'll give you some credit for leaving the male Viera thread and possibly seeing other people with opposing views, though based on your brief posting history the bias is clear.
Personally I'm not a fan of Viera nor the notion to insert them and they alone as the only playable race from Ivalice purely just to pander. Race-wise, I preferred the devs create whatever they had envisioned that they felt they needed/wanted, and when they revealed that female Hrothgar was dropped just to appease the constant nagging of people wanting Viera, it just left a bad taste. But it is what it is now...
The male: Hrothgar and female: Viera situation is fine with me though. I understand why it is the way it is, and I sympathize with the devs in this instance for the tough call they had to make and what they have to put-up with as a result. Viera have always been represented by just their females and are what the "fans" are familiar with. The devs delivered in that regard. On the other side of the coin, as Yoshi already mentioned, the devs wanted to add something different of their own; and that would be with the Hrothgar, which arguably scratches the more "beastly" race itch other players were asking about. If the released Viera are female, the Hrothgar need to be male to balance that.
It's fine to request/show your support for the female Hrothgar and male Viera, but the level of obnoxiousness and entitlement some people are exhibiting for it (especially during the 1st week) is causing me to develop some serious schadenfreude. No, I hope the devs don't delay the expansion/siphon resources from other outlets/ cause other customization projects to suffer/cut more corners just because a vocal minority of the male Viera fans don't care how, they want it now!

This is my first time hearing anyone in the mmo space use it like that.
Gender locked reffers to a class/ job that's locked behind 1 gender because though there are 2 genders the devs don't want to animate both doing the job.
Like how a class or job can be race locked .... You can only play it as this or that race. A class or job can be gender locked ... Only 1 gender can play it. It's how its been used in every other game I've played, from BD to Tera to B&S. Everyone refers to monogender races as "a all female/ male race"
People attached it to FF14 sometime in the past to excite people imo.
Who knows might have meshes, skeletons, color sets etc etc and unused assets are a very common not likely a full race of unused assets but its definitely a thing
Example there is an entire boss fight new model and all plus a boss rush mode unused in Bloodborne its very much a thing.

1- its important to refrain from acting like this is some black and white team vs team topic.
"Supports genderlock", what's this supposed to mean? You don't have to support something to be apathictic to it. I don't "support" monogenders, wouldn't ask for them to make them ... I simply don't care if they make them. It doesn't bother me.
2- where are these mils of people??? They're playing the game and not bothering with this tiny hug bubble forum. For some of the fan fest recently I've been online in game, had a whole nm group in eureka jump out as people died because the fan fest started. People talked about news in shouts and everyone was following the events. These people KNOW about these new races ... They just don't care.
Apathy! It's what's for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
