You must not be aware of the changes that are about to be made. I would make sure you're caught up on the subject before posting.
But anyway, I certainly oppose the unnecessary measures in the name of adhering to Steam policies. It has worked just fine up until now. Why change it? Makes no sense. We don't need extra authentication measures.

This was from an earlier page in this thread:
So yeah, while I also haven't had any real issues with Steam when it comes to FFXIV, what was stated here is very worrying. And I HAVE had issues with ESO thanks to Steam.Ayer right now it does nothing different from launching via launcher. You get an overlay by doing this but there is no difference in functionality. Your client connects directly to SE's servers. When this change becomes enforced your game will function differently, it will connect to Valve's auth servers which will then forward your game connection on to SE's servers. If Valves servers go down, you will DC. If the connection between Valves auth servers and SE's auth servers overload or otherwise mess up you will be booted from the game and be unable to log in again.
This has already happened with another MMO, ESO. ZOS could do nothing to help the users because the problems are always on Steam's end. It has been a mess for over 18 months and Valve shows no signs of trying to find a serious solution to the issue. To imagine that it will somehow be different for SE belies the reality that just this morning the Steam auth servers came back up after 2 days of being down for ESO. The game is still getting days and weeks of downtime for Steam users. FFXIV will have to contend with the exact same issue.
The most everyone seems to be hoping for is the option to convert their steam keys to PC keys, and I will definitely support this. Signed.
Yeesh. I bought FFXIV through Steam years ago. I didn't do any prior research, but I semi-regret not buying a regular PC key. I haven't had TOO many issues with Steam (and Steam wallet is a godsend for use in the Mog Station), but this doesn't sound very good at all. I'm especially concerned after reading all of the issues with ESO... I have a friend who had an awful time with that game through the Steam platform. I'd hate for FFXIV to go that route. /sigh
I wish you could transfer your account to a different key, even if it were only a one-time deal. :'/
They wrote this at 13th Mart Update:Was worried this would get lost in the sea of outrage over the gender locking issue. Glad to see it returning as a topic. I have yet to see anything from Square further on this topic either? Supposedly we were to hear by the end of this month which is in 3 days or so. Hopefully, this means they've seen the feedback and are rethinking it.
I wonder what is this "confirmed bug" though.*Update Mar. 13, 2019 11:05 p.m. (PDT):
Due to a confirmed bug, implementation that was tentatively scheduled for late March will now be delayed until April or after. We will let you know as soon as a date is confirmed.
Yeah if they implement it the same way as ESO without giving us the option to convert our keys or buy non-Steam keys that is a deal breaker for me. I'd completely unsub the first time anything bad happened.
When I got FFXIV, I was lucky that I hadn't heard of steam back then (I live under a rock) and got the one directly from the FFXIV site.
While this issue doesn't apply to me, I do think that they should not go through with the changes and/or allow people to transfer their account off steam.
Me and my husband are always complaining about how buggy steam is, and to have that buggy mess with server issues interfere with people's FFXIV experience sounds terrible.

This so much. I just want to buy a regular windows key on my account. Had a similar convo with my husband. Not sure what i'm going to do if there is connectivity issues. Starting a new account is incredibly daunting but it might be what I have to do if it's that bad. Hoping it's /not/ that bad but we'll have to see.
You wouldn't have to start a new account but you would have to buy another copy of the game. It'd be more work to start another account for absolutely no reason. This so much.
