Yeah SE is so "sexist" and "homophobic" (as someone else claimed) that they unlocked the bunny outfit from gold saucer for males too after people asked for it. Your logic is flawed.
If they had already decided on that Yoshi wouldn't have said "maybe" when asked if the genderlocked races would ever be added and wouldn't bother reviewing the feedback. People asking for them to be added aren't hurting anyone, but keep being bitter about it I guess? It isn't going away anytime soon so you should probably get used to it.

Actually they tried to give people both the highly requested Viera and the also requested 'bestial' race. Due to limited resources they had to split the difference. It wasn't that these genders weren't 'worth' the resources, the resources weren't there for two whole new races at launch.

I am not calling the devs sexist or homophobic but just a reminder that it took a lot of what some considered "whining" to get it unlocked. Maybe literal years since that question was asked at multiple Fan Fests and other events.

Can we just let this thread die? It feels like we are giving visibility to people that only wants other players to be unhappy because they already have what they want. All the answers are already out there. If someone is mean and selfish will stay mean and selfish.
I don't get the fuss myself. IF I want to play a female bunny or a Male lion boy than I will. It never stop me before so why would that stop me now.

I support your supporting of the devs.
The gender-lock issue is completely overblown.
I don't want time/resources distributed to content that a (vocal) minority of players will utilize.

It's not just about designing and making new races. Once a new race is made and all the past stuff has been fitted to them they still have to support the race moving forward, fitting all future gear and emotes and content to them.I'm not sure this applies entirely.
The team responsible for creating the characters is not responsible for creating new dungeons/zones for example.
So your statement is not entirely correct.
That said, I personally would be okay if they just released one race with both genders, and added the other race later on.
Its like adding a job. All that work that goes into it doesn't stop just because it's been released. Going forward they still gotta balance them and bug fix them and update them when level cap is increased and design weapons for them and do job quest for them and so on.
So yeah, more races make it harder for them to do other things we like after they release them.

The problem is we don't want devs to be wasting time and resources on something that won't please everyone
