Perhaps if they had given the playerbase what they wanted to pay for to begin with would have meant they could have added Au Ra later without backlash for not adding Viera. Perhaps there'd be no backlash now, because they'd have implemented a full race instead of just half-assing two races with lame excuses as for why they're incomplete.

In the end this is a product and we are buyers. It's not about what they want, it's about what WE want.
You got Viera. Viera are predominantly female. Go on board the Prima Vista and listen to the rambling speech the traveling performer gives. Or go full bore and look into Viera lore from FFXII or Tactics. That's all the explanation you need.

And if it upsets you so much, then by all means, unsub. And in case you don't remember, after Au Ra were introduced, SE said no more races, but like you said, the player base badgered them to death for the one race that is traditionally gender locked, then feign disgust and anger when said race is introduced..and is gender locked.

Somehow Male miqo'te (particularly keepers) exists with the SAME lore rules (much rare! So hidden! GASP) attached. Dont you bark that nonsense at me. If they can make it work for one race, then they cannot use it as an excuse to prevent another.

You're right, they didn't specifically SAY viera. However, SE controls what they put out to us. They literally have the power to show us or not show us whatever they wish. They showed us viera. Bunny people. If they didn't want people to make that connection they should not have depicted it as such with their concepts.

If you dont want to put your foot in your mouth, then dont set yourself up to do just that. (in regards to SE, not you.)

But they did use that as an excuse. They wrote the lore for it. Just like they wrote the lore for Male Miqo'te. Did they retcon that lore? Yes they did. Will they do the same for Viera? Maybe, but I hope they don't. Male Viera do not intermingle with other races, and are overtly hostile towards them. But sure, let's go ahead and let Shirogane, and Ala Mhigo, and Eorzea be infested with bunny men that by nature would have nothing to do with any other race other than other male Viera.

    Seems legit.

Other PCs do not exist in the Lore (Male miqo'te lore was also never retconned, you can count male Keepers on one hand and have fingers left over, male Seekers had better lore excuses to be NPCs). They can very well add Male Viera and we'd only see them in the Rak'Tika Greatwood (or only see a few scattered ones after the forest fire).

As far as I know, they didn't re-write Miqo'te lore. Male Miqo'te are still far outnumbered by their female counterparts. NPCs in the world that are Miqo'te are namely female - I can recall the 2 nuhns, 5 tias out of the countless females in all of Hydaelyn.

Now, you could argue PCs shouldn't be held to the same standard, but when a baby is taken at birth to be isolation and raised on only the strongest survive and made hostile...

    ...
    ...

It's hard even for me to find a lore-abiding reason to allow PCs access to male Viera given what's been presented.

EDIT: RIP. Hit the daily limit. Did they reduce it again? D:

Yeah. I was at FanFest 2014 in person as well. I also remember the panel it was during - discussion the concept of Au Ra and what the artists had come up with. I'm keenly aware that most pictures that get circulated with the depiction of Veira from the announcement of Heavensward are from the FATE in TOKYO, even though they show cased the same image as Au Ra - The Viera in the panel.

    Context clues would tell you:
    1) All the artwork is concepts for the race that will be titled "Au Ra" - every image in that panel had "Au Ra" scribed onto the page with a subtext of some sort showing the idea behind it (demon, dragon, beast, viera, viangaa, etc.)
    2) All of the concepts were ideas on what Au Ra would look like
    3) Most of the ideas were very different, with the reptilian-looks being the only theme that was repeated
    4) That whatever the choice was, Au Ra was going to be the name of the race (IE: If the concept dubbed "The Viera" was picked to be "Au Ra," chances are, we'd have bunny Au Ra and not demi-dragon Au Ra).

This is in part why I think consumers are honestly presented too much information. Instances like this happen where people become upset and feel led on.

Where in Hydaelin's name did it say the males were taken at birth? The dramaturge explicitly points out all Viera children are raised in the Village, indistinguishable until they're 13, a male will come down once every two years to mate and take those male teens with him. That's still plenty of time to form an identity and even throw in some sob-backstory about being taken away from his best friends and wanting to go back. We do have to remember that the WoL is always an outlier.

they never retconned that lore. It is still the standard miqo'te lore.

So again, dont bark that nonsense at me.
