they would have to dumb the game down soo badly to fit on switch it'd be pathetic.

Plus, how could you ever play on a mmo screen that small. It just wouldn't work.

PSO2 I believe was playable on PS Vita in Japan. Smaller screen and also an MMO.

I love my switch but I don't think FFXiV would be a good fit for it. Perhaps the FFXI mobile version would be better for it. There hasn't been any news on it for a while though

TBH in regards to an FF title aside from single player remasters of older games or direct ports, the next FF series game I can see going to the switch at launch would either be a new entry into the Crystal Chronicles series, a new FF Tactics game, or a sequel to FF Explorers. Or maybe revive the Chocobo's Dungeon series because those were quite enjoyable.

Ask and ye shall receive. They announced a new Chocobo's Mystery Dungeon for the Switch back in February.

We aren't dealing with ps4 limitations, because the limiting factor currently are the minimum spec requirements for PC or for whats its worth the player base itself. You see, many people don't even have an pc better than ps4 hardware and are playing the game. As i recall one of the reasons FF14 1.0 failed was according to the developer the fact that, the game needed to high hardware specs and those limited the potencial player base. I'd imagine opting for an big increase in graphics in which the ps4 would be the limiting factor would also increase the dev time between patches significantly.

When designing FF14, Square Enix succumbed to the pressures of having to succeed a second time. Yoshida points to three primary reasons for FF14's failure.

First: an unhealthy obsession with graphical quality. During his GDC presentation, he pulled up an image of a flower pot that appeared in the game.

One of the reasons Square dropped PS3 support was to remove PS3 limitations.
As i recall the big issues with the ps3 according to the developers was the RAM and HDD of the ps3. Both of which are miles behind the switch, because it actually has 3GB RAM instead of 512mb for games and the SD card is faster than the standard HDD in the ps3. Would an port be possible? I don't know, but if i remember this correctly, the RAM and HDD were the big issue with the ps3 version and i don't see the switch having an issue with that. Well, besides the internal space to save data. FF14 would most certainly require the switch owners to buy an extra sd card.

PSO2 is more comparable to Monster Hunter than a tab-target MMO.
You have significantly less buttons to map.

We're now going to claim limitations on button mapping when button wise it's just short 2 shoulder buttons present on a PS controller as a way to discredit a game from the same genre? I'm not referencing the central touchpad on the PS4 because it wasn't present on the PS3. I did try out FFXI back on a PS2 on a triple boxing experiment with a controller which lasted all of about 5 minutes before I tossed the controller aside and connected a keyboard to the console. Button mapping is essentially a handicap encountered on most console/handheld games when compared to options on a PC. Even on something as simple as an FPS game.

PSO2 also had a lot less characters on screen.
