Damn this thread moves fast.
I actually don't think you understood where I'm going with the part you bolded. So I'll expand on that while using a general "you", not speaking about "you" directly:
No, your vote don't count if you don't intend to play as one of the gender+race impacted by the issue and if you are only moralizing it. Simply being against "gender locks" without effectively being impacted by it, and thus trying to enforce the creation of a full gender just for the sake of it existing -even if the result turns out to be complete garbage- instead of another one, means that you want ressources to be put into creating something that you don't actually want to play, at the expense of what other people might actually want.
In short, if you push for male Viera without wanting to play it, you are doing nothing but taking a side between people who want male Vieras, and people who'd like to play male Hrothgar. You are inflating numbers for a side while doing a disservice for the other without any practical reason to do so. Both sides have their rights to want to play something without you intervening to decide what side is more worth it that the other. (Again, general "you".)
To be even more clear, the reason why I said that people who moralize the issue don't count is simply because this is not a moral issue. It's strictly a player numbers and ressources one. How much ressources can be put into making a new gender+race, and how many people are going to play it. There is nothing more to it.
People have to understand that gender "lock" is actually not a thing. SE is not actively pushing a switch button to "lock" a race from having two genders. They have to create these genders. They are not putting a deliberate "lock" on it as much as they simply don't have enough ressources to create the other genders.
So, if SE have to choose (and they do), they should make their choice considering the people who actually want to play these races/genders, and not the moralists who don't want to. Because, again, this is not a moral choice that SE is making. It's simply about trying to please the most players actually impacted by this issue. It's about making a compromise. (I mean, we all know that the choice as already been made and I'm just explaining it here. But whatever.)
Important precision: I'm obviously speaking about moralizers who want Male Viera at the expense of Male Hrothgar, and who don't actually want to play any of the two. The idea of getting everything (Male+Female Viera and Male+Female Hrothgar) is obviously not taken in consideration here, as it's unrealistic given the information we have.
I mean, be idealistic if you want and ask for everything, but if they simply can't do it then your request won't achieve anything. If a request simply cannot be fulfilled, then by default it won't be considered. So it's better to be pragmatic.
The tl;dr is: If SE can only make two new playable characters instead of four, then they should make what looks best and what most people would enjoy. As nothing else actually matters. Especially not morale. This was the bottom line of the point I was trying to make.
