PS4 was released in 2014. PS3 support was dropped from FFXIV in 2018. Even if PS5 is released this year as some of the more optimistic estimates claim, it'll likely take several years until PS4 support is dropped. It looks like about half the player base is on PS4 so it would be financial suicide for SE to drop PS4 support as soon as PS5 is released, because not everyone is going to upgrade their consoles immediately.
If they dont plan on updating the graphics engine I dont think the PS4 version will get discontinued any time soon even 3 years after ps5 releases.
It would be extremely shocking if the PS5 was not 100% fully backwards compatible for PS4 games. So, yeah, XIV will be available on PS5 from day 1.
I expect FFXIV to be a launch title and possibly a showcase title.
Add to that, it will most likely run in PS4 Pro mode by default. That should hold people over until they release a native PS5 client.
With both using X86 based CPU. The port should be easier. However I don't think we will see it on ps5 for atleast a year + after release and who know the state of FFXIV in 2 more years.
Commendations.
If I play dps I only give it out to other dps.
If I play tank I only give it out to healers.
If I play healer I only give it out to tank.
Only if they should be getting a commendation.
There are always exceptions to the rules!
Which would probably open the door for more expansion if they re-worked it for PS5Even without knowing the specs, there are some pc at the moment that still beat what the ps5 will be - people who put thousands in a pc will always beat a console. But I honnestly doubt that we'll see/ear PS5 limitation before a while, at least not when the PS4 is still arround.
And to answer the question, it's a sure bet to say that it will work on the PS5. Yoshi said they have ideas for at least 3 more expansion after Shadowbringers, so if they keep going with an expansion every 2 years, it means at least 8 more years of FFXIV. The PS4 won't last that long, and there is too many people playing on a playstation to stop supporting it.
Which begs the question if the System goes backwards compatible would it run FFXI and would SE allow it or Sony.
