Just a rumour due to a patent filed by Sony but the PS5 may be backwards compatible. I'd still like to see an upgraded port such as the PS3 / PS4 versions but early PS5 adopters may still get their FFXIV fix.

Producer said he would need the PS5 for better dying palettes and other game improvements I'd guess so yeah, XIV will be supported from the beginning on the PlayStation 5, most likely!...
I do hope they immediately drop PS4 support otherwise that would become the bottleneck once again, but judging by the trends XIV is developed around Sony's best console and not the PC, it's like if they had some kind of agreement!...
If the game even needs developing for the PS5. What I really hope to see is the hardware is bumped up, but it runs on the same OS and programming architecture as PS4. Basically a PS4 Pro 2 but labelled 5. I can only imagine this would be enormously attractive to SE instead of having to port/recode from the ground up for a new platform.
I'm pretty, pretty sure that SE and Sony have a very special relationship. Otherwise Sony wouldn't have SE allowed to use their out-of-system patcher for so long. Or giving them special treatment by releasing system update early when the introduction of the new patcher went south. I don't think any other company has such good relations with Sony.Producer said he would need the PS5 for better dying palettes and other game improvements I'd guess so yeah, XIV will be supported from the beginning on the PlayStation 5, most likely!...

It's a very safe bet, I'd say.
Even without knowing the specs, there are some pc at the moment that still beat what the ps5 will be - people who put thousands in a pc will always beat a console. But I honnestly doubt that we'll see/ear PS5 limitation before a while, at least not when the PS4 is still arround.
And to answer the question, it's a sure bet to say that it will work on the PS5. Yoshi said they have ideas for at least 3 more expansion after Shadowbringers, so if they keep going with an expansion every 2 years, it means at least 8 more years of FFXIV. The PS4 won't last that long, and there is too many people playing on a playstation to stop supporting it.
I bet on PS5 just backward compatible with PS4 and you can play same XIV you have now.
If and when PS4 support will be dropped, we'll likely to see other kind of improvements, as happened when PS3 dropped and max number of concurrent objects incrased to PS4 specs.
But about overall graphics goodies improvements, they have already been ruled out because the cost is simply too much to ever think at it, too many assets are to be redone.
I guess we'll see better overall graphics on next FF MMO. Let's kiss clipping goodbye? xD
will it be on the ps6? or the ps7?

You know not everyone can afford a brand new console on its release expect ps4 to stay around then expect ps4pro to stay longer they'll drop them off gradually.Producer said he would need the PS5 for better dying palettes and other game improvements I'd guess so yeah, XIV will be supported from the beginning on the PlayStation 5, most likely!...

If ps5 is announced this year then expect ps4 till the end of the expansion after ShB so 4 to 5 years and i have to ask is the lowest pc rig that ffxiv is still supporting more powerful than a ps4? if it is ps4 would be holding the game back if it isn't then pcs are holding the game back
