Hopefully it will be better than ps4 launch. When FFXIV launched on ps4 it took SE a whole month to fix the problems. Since they have the devkit already, its probably going to be a smooth launch.

ARR came out near the end of PS3's lifespan, so it made sense to drop PS3 support. PS4 will probably be supported until near the end of FFXIV's lifespan.
I would bet that FFXIV will be out for PS5, since I don't think it would take much resources from SE and they could add more subscribers.

I think it's:
- Yes, XIV will most likely be supported on PS5. How soon depends on how good the backwards compatibility is for the system.
- No, we will probably not get any radical new features or changes as a result of being on PS5, at least not for a while. Definitely won't take advantage of cool things like the ray tracing since that is a hardware architecture level thing and XIV's entire engine would have to be written to take advantage of it
- That said, certain inherent advantages of the PS5 will lend themselves nicely to the game anyway. PS5 will ship with a native SSD for much smoother loading.
They may choose to do with future games what they did with XV - add in a multi-player concept to the game after launch, as opposed to having the game be an MMO from day one. For XIV, according to Tanaka they knew it needed to be an MMO from the time they started sketching it out on a whiteboard - while the story line was developed later, the early features were things like the armory system, the levequest system, the cross class system, etc.
