Healer Horror Stories: Redux

Just need to vent some frustration with the JP servers, so here's my healer horror story from the perspective of things going "too well".

I was running Ampador Keep (aka braindead easy due to the ridiculous level sync cap being so far over the MinIL. However, the entire party seemed determined to single pull the entire dungeon, despite having a RDM/SAM/WHM/PLD (an above average AoE comp). This caused me to become so unbelievably bored that I just went ahead and soloed the mobs ahead of the rest of the party (not like they needed healing anyways). The result of which was the party ditching, so I just soloed it until the group refilled

Leveling Roulette: The Vault

Running as my RDM instead of WHM to get it to 70... oh boy. First boss we wipe, and I'd noticed just before that all of us were sitting very low on our HP pools. Ok, fine... back in and the healer is dead within a minute, followed by the other DPS. I go into pure survival mode and heal the tank and myself enough so we finish the boss.

At this point I am wondering wtf is going on and look at the healer's gear... i133 NQ weapon, i120-130 Ironworks left side, right side is missing a ring and the rest are i110-120. Oh geeze. At this point I am glad I at least have Vercure.

Second boss went the same as the first, a wipe followed by me healing everyone after the healer died. Now we finally got some words out of him, asking why he was dying in one hit... well you are undergeared for this. The reply was he was saving for Shire gear and didn't want to have to buy extra gearsets. >_<

We get to the final hallway of trash and then the bombshell... "oh yeah guys, my gear is broken." WHAT?!?!

Ok, at this point I figure I am going to have to heal the final boss solo. I had him concentrate on only himself and the tank, I'd heal us DPS. Get into the fight and yep, he's dead in about a minute.

Needless to say my DPS on the boss at that point was a secondary concern. Luckily I managed to keep the three of us alive for the rest of the fight.

The final kicker after being the ONLY reason we completed the dungeon... not a single comm. I hate people at times.

Comm works in a weird way, I could get 0 comm for carrying the raid, or get like 5 for doing nothing but dps as OT.
Players focused too much on the battle sometimes they couldn't tell who healed/raised them. (hug)

Doing all healing when the other healer hardly heals one person and at end don't get one commendation when no deaths happened during the run. Pretty sure this is why there is shortage of healers on my server. Healers get no respect.

Hello massive understatement! I work my ass off and get no thanks but you better bet if one thing goes wrong its always my fault no matter if i could've even done anything. I'm starting to suspect this grating on my mental health.

When i first returned a month ago we did a run to finish off leveling WHM for me and it was in one of those low level dungeons that i hate so much. the tank would pull mobs, stand there for a split second and then round a corner, all the while taking damage. he never stopped even once to attempt to finish off a group before running to the next and i could barely start casting before he went off around another corner and i got yet another "target not in line of sight!" or "target out of range!". obviously they died and we just left.

I'll heal you for big pulls but i refuse to go at mach stupid.

As a white mage, grouping with a scholar. I havn't hit 4.0 yet, in 3.X right now, but I swear, whenever I'm in a 2 healer group and the other is a scholar, they NEVER CAST a single friggen heal. They just leave the fairy to do it while they pretend to be dps.
And oddly, in 2 healer groups, I only EVER seem to have to rescue(heavily heal) the other healer when its a scholar as well.

While I'm sure that's sometimes true, it's probably not most of the time.

Scholar healing tends to be less visible because so much of it is the fairy and OGCDs. I often go through entirely dungeons without hardcasting any heals besides the occasional adlo/succor. Embrace is the fairy, and Lustrate, Indomitibility, Excogitation, and Whispering Dawn don't have cast times. Miasma and Broil are the VAST majority of all cast time spells I use in most situations.

You must not be very familiar with how the scholar is played i think.
Like bright said, a lot of scholar's healing comes from oGCD, because theses are really efficient heals.
And yes, sometimes scholar's let fairy heal only, because she actually does a lot.
But if you see scholar's failling at healing with this method, it's not because it's the wrong way to do, but because those players may have lack of skills and understanding of what they were doing.

A lot of people think like you, feeling the scholar heals nothing and the whm/ast do all the job.
That's another reason why when you're healing, it's interesting to see the full picture and understanding what tools other jobs from the same role have.

It's interesting to see how often the HP bars becomes red.

The type one, the SCH that's actually healing, is where he appears not healing, but the HP bars don't meet the red often nor I see Whispering Dawn so much (SCH I played with tends to hold Whispering Dawn when paired with a WHM because I have Medica 2). In that case, the run is really smooth, because when I look at the tank just before some tank buster, he is already shielded (depending on the duty, the party is also shielded with a critlo). In this case, the only heal GCDs I use frequently is Medica 2 and Regen. Anything else I can do mostly with my oGCDs. And most of time, My GCDs is also ocupied mostly with DPS.

The type two, the green DPS scholar, is where the HP bars becomes red if I or his Eos don't heal. Most of them are actually SMN mains who is getting a faster queue. In that case, I'll have to solo heal because that SCH won't cast a Indom when a raid-wide damage hits the party (so I'll precast Cure 3 or Medica 1) or shield the MT before some tankbuster (so I put a DB on him). And Cure 2 casts is much more frequent on this setting.

And I healed alongside both types.
