Gender locked race?

The genders were introduced because players asked for them. Regardless of the status of the game, regardless of experimentation, the feedback was noted and acted on.

But the decision to act on them was absolutely influenced by the state of the game. That's what part of relaunching the game was, taking a list of everything the playerbase had complaints about, and doing what they could to fix them, even if normally it might not have been something a game director would consider necessary.

The very fact Yoshida would even comment and be open to the idea of another genderlocked race just a few months before the relaunch of 2.0 shows that even after fixing that he still felt like the concept of gender locked races was viable for the future.

The same feedback they acted on for 1.0 to 2.0 absolutely wouldn't be the same kind of feedback they act on for the current game.

One of the quotes specifically mentions Yoshi being surprised by the amount of people who wanted a playable Femroe. Today, Femroes are the least popular played race and yet the game is better for having them for those that, for one reason or another, want to be a big muscular chick.

And I wonder how he feels about that particular decision and development time spent. He might take caution in the future and perhaps not listen to people who may seem vocal about something, only to ultimately not actually play it/consume it. Similarly, people complained (and still do, in this thread even) about the dimorphic nature of Au Ra. He could easily take that pushback and apply it to help himself justify not doing male Viera. If he wanted to make them dimorphic (again because he's not keen on male bunnies), but then he'd catch flak again for doing it, it might encourage him to just not do that and instead we are presented with a possible male only separate race.

Im not going to imply that gender locked races will cause the game to crash and burn. But if the devs are willing to let us have more Ishgard content after listening to players repeatedly ask for it, I think its hypocritical to imply that races should be held to a different standard.

By all means if gender locks happen than campaign for them to be unlocked. I'm with everyone in that I'd want both these races to be unlocked. But I'm also a person who would have preferred something more interesting than Viera to be added to the game. So if it's to be genderlocked, so be it if it means we get something more interesting.

Using femra's popularity against them in the context of adding new races is somewhat unfair, both to them and to the new race. As I said earlier in the thread, muscular male races are significantly less popular than less muscular male races. If this new race is influenced by existing race trends, it’ll look like a human with 80’s hair and cat tail.

Au Ra’s extreme dimorphism was an…interesting decision. Noticeable dimorphism isn’t inherently awful imo, but when with both cranked up to 11 in opposite directions...its something lol. imo if you look at their concept art you can see where they started to try to sell a single race to two vast different demographics: those who buy into teeny tiny anime waifus, and those who wanted something borderline beastly, racial cohesion be damned. Were the males a tad smaller or the females a tad more beastly it wouldn’t have been so odd.

If effeminate males are the issue, the males could be beefed up without ending with a pair where one barely meets the other’s bellybutton xD Personally the issue with effeminate bugs me a bit. Not for any SJWish reasons, but like…logically the males and females shouldn’t likely be ridiculously different past colors/manes/other sexual dimorphisms. The bunnies have to get it on at some point to make more bunnies. If the females are tall, lean, and walk on their toes, would a tall, lean, man that walks on their toes really be that awkward a design to work with?

I would have been all for a beast pair had they gone with that. I just hate the idea of two halves, especially with such a highly demanded (and teased) whole.
