Gender locked race?

All I want to know is why some folks are so against the idea of male Viera. I mean, it literally hurts no one to add another option for players, because if you don't like male Viera, there is really simple solution to that problem...... Don't play one.

But someone else choosing something you wouldn't choose is not the end of the world. And if Square Enix does end up with a cutesy waifu race for female characters and male characters get stuck with yet another hyper-masculine race then yes, I'm in the camp that they're doing so with some seriously backwards and old fashioned thinking by assuming that all players want the same kind of male characters instead of having some variety. As they say, variety is the spice of life. If all the male characters followed the same tropes that would be really dull and really boring.

I think because some see it at the last chance at something non-FFXIV standard, having a hyper-masculine beast/"ugly" race would be more spice to FFXIV than another pretty male. Of course having a beast-like race male and female and viera male and female would add further spice. Beast like for example if their Au Ra matched concept art rather than the more standard Au Ra we have.

Well, yeah, that I can understand. But I also don't believe Yoshi when he says this will probably be the last race. I think he's just saying that to cover his ass, not promise a new one. Can't say I blame him for doing that though.

That didn't prove true over time. Situations change and the dev team continues to surprise us in positive ways. I hope that we get a complete Viera race with males and females (evidence points to the cutesy/young elezen design for males so far) and later on a truly bestial race in order for everyone to be happy. However, given us 2 different races with one gender each is something we don't want to go back to. I understand that Ronso (???) fans are excited but I think waiting for full races to be released will make everyone happier in the end.

I actually like this idea a lot. I want those who want a more beast-like race to eventually get that, but not if it means giving us a limited race when Viera has already been confirmed. And I'll admit, the idea of playing as a female Ronso is pretty cool.

This might be a reach, but what if the fat chocobo hoodie he had on today was some sort of reference to big chungus? They are both fat and iconic, and he did already wear a bugs bunny shirt before. Maybe that's the foreshadowing for male Viera at Tokyo?

I rather have the male version that they depicted in the ivalice alliance story snippet: Survivors from the wilderness of the forest, where only the strong come through and go back to the villages.

Some people already make their own ideas how they look, a few even seem pretty much spot on here.

Since people are chatting about stuff they've seen on speculative male viera from fans, this is one I saw a while ago that really impressed me. I'd still like tall, slim bishie male viera because it would be dramatically different (elezen have super broad shoulders) but still think this is a very cool design.

This is also a really good design. At the end of the day, what I don't want is child-looking males. That just weirds me out, like Lalafells.

...I'm actually getting upset typing about this, because FFXIV is the fandom I came to specifically to escape and try to find something that's still positive. I've seen a lot of innocent people hurt over this, and honestly I still get scared to talk sometimes even here.

So argue if you want to, but when you start accusing anyone with any kind of social criticism of being an SJW it makes you look naive. You're very, very lucky you haven't experienced that kind of terror.

This is the reason that I, when giving critique or outright criticism as I've done here, feel the need to add that I'm not a sjw. I don't want people to think I'd accuse them of horrible things just because they want hot babes in their games/movies etc. If I were to show them my female character in Blade and Soul there would be no doubt though. Lol! She's got assets if ya know what I mean. *hint hint nudge nudge*
What I dislike is when there is clear favoritism, and that goes both ways. And I don't want my creativity or personal choice to be stifled in a mmorpg.

Honestly, I think it's the perfect time to show male Viera. They're forest wardens who protect the forest and their people. A male Viera WoL has more reason to venture out just like any other race that once had that silly race lock. WoL is driven by fate and 'mama crystal'.

Times are changing, and it makes sense for the race to evolve with it - they've never had a reason to until now. Just like it makes sense for there to be a WoL Viera Male.

Yes, yes, a thousand times yes! This is exactly why it would be such a waste if they weren't added. It excites me to think about what amazing stories that I could come up with for my character if he was a Viera!

The WoL is exceptional. Cultural norms shouldn't limit the WoL's race. Any lore reasoning for gender locking a player race is just an excuse by developers who don't wanting to bother making two models and animation sets. Having one male viera who has the power to change the world leave the Great Wood doesn't break lore. Because remember, lore wise there is only one player character with other players being refereed to, if at all, as adventurers (as in generic members of the adventurer's guild) that help the WoL, not other Warriors of Light.
