So... aren't the Lupins a lion type race or are they more dogs? Maybe male Viera are more lion like and less bunnies but are still considered Viera? Meaning they have smaller ears, more pronounced canines and maybe a mane that connects to their hair?

Concepts do change over time but that level of dimorphism would be out of place in FFXIV, where the biggest example of sexual dimorphism is the height differences between male and female Au'ra. The mane idea also, while neat, is also unlikely given that SE is allergic to potentially allowing assets to clip unless it's a cash shop item.

The reveal of female Viera internationally is a way of giving their international fans a gift. Their big surprise they're likely saving for Japan since that's their main crowd and they want to "save the best for last".

This is what I'm thinking too. Male Viera have never been seen in any shape or form before, so they're saving this huge announcement for the final Fanfest.
Also that and maybe the fact that men just aren't finished at all.

From the footage we've seen, the female models don't look quite complete yet. We haven't seen the full range of faces or ear types yet. Hell not even many animations and from some of the ones we've seen they look suspiciously similar to ones from other races.

This in particular looks like a flipped Au Ra idle stance.

They probably were trying to meet a deadline since preorders were opening up soon and Viera would sell like hotcakes by just existing.
I bet we're going to get a more in-depth look at them at the Tokyo Fanfest along with the male Viera reveal.

Also I highly doubt they'd want to gender-lock a race knowing they'd lose out on Fantasia money.

I hope you understand that if it's not ready now it will not be for 5.0 as well. From what see say it take the something like 6 month to make one set of gear.

Im disappointed that they actually left out any questions regarding the male race in the eorzean question time. I dont mean like "Do Male Viera exist?", this would just end up the same answer we got from the interview/press conference last night.
But at least someone could of asked how his stance is towards gender locked races. Pity this didnt happen. It would of give some light to this situation at least..

From my understanding they did answer the question yesterday by saying that more about it will be revealed in Tokyo. Sure, I hope it's male viera and not "gender locked race number 2 but male", but I think based on the previous stuff about Roes and Miqos, it'll be vieras

Honestly though it depends on how much is done behind the scenes. We don't have any way of knowing that. I doubt it's a situation where they have nothing done at all and have to make everything from scratch for male Viera from gear to models. If anything I'd expect they have a ton of different people working on many different items and models simultaneously trying to get it all to around the same place at around the same time. Similar principle to cooking, you want all your items finished and hot at around the same time. They're a huge company with a lot of manpower, so division of labor like that makes sense to me.

Additionally, for all we know there's a lot more done or farther along that they haven't shown because they're saving it for Japan. Anything we know at this point I'm willing to bet is what they want us to know, possibly including the leaks.
