Why walk out of AoE's like some sort of plebeian, when you could teleport out of them and then back to where you started! Was a super fun archetype, constantly teleporting about the place to maintain the buffs from having recently teleported, in addition to trying to keep the boss still, in addition to having a WoW Rogue style combo point system, in addition to being a leather wearing tank so had far less armour than other tanks so you really had to manage your buff uptimes well... Also, that and being super broken in CTF modes in PvP because you'd be a tank, so hard to kill, then would stealth in to the enemy base and pick up the flag, then teleport literally 60% the way across the map within 2 seconds because of your many different teleport skills xD

Also, if we're talking about reviving Tanks from other games... Everquest II's Swashbuckler was always neat. While not specifically billed as a tank (Also, gutted in fairly recent changes in terms of threat management) it always had a focus on fighting toe to toe with enemies, with high parry ratings and being able to use their directional skills because they'd have moves that would spin the enemy around just long enough to pop a shank into their spine or flank xD

I could see some sort of Pirate class in FFXIV, dagger in the main hand, pistol in the off hand... Would be mDPS's wet dream if they would have skills that allowed the use of directional skills irregardless of positioning temporarily, allowing them to not only use their own effects, but also alleviating mDPS's concern on those bosses they can't get behind of for whatever reason. Their defence relying on good old Pirate unfair play, kicking sand/dirt into enemies eyes to blind them, putting poison on their weapons, drinking a bunch of rum to dull the sense of pain
I would love XIV's own version of a tank approaching the Riftstalker aesthetic... So long as it can be situated well.
