Why would it need to start in an ARR area? There is no way in hell it's starting at level 50 - that's way too much levelling if you want to switch main jobs at launch. It'll be level 60 that it starts at, which allows for HW areas as well. Though honestly, I think the way they handled new jobs in HW was better. I really think they should be unavailable if you haven't completed the previous expansion. This way they don't have to avoid referencing past MSQ content in the initial job quest arc, and the timeline of events across all content is clearer...

MSQ characters aren't usually job NPCs. The exception was Estinien I think, but he was not a MSQ character in 2.x, when he was in the DRG job quest.

He was also involved in the Lv70 quest. Also, even with his heavy involvement in the ARR quests, he was never a "standing NPC" you could interact with. He just turned up in cutscenes, did his thing, and left again. Probably to avoid having him standing around in two places at once, if you were doing those quests during Heavensward.

Hilda took over as primary MCH questgiver during Stormblood, Y'mhitra (SMN) had a brief MSQ role in Heavensward and the Padjals (CNJ/WHM) have ongoing low-level MSQ appearances - plus the Amdapor dungeon unlock quests.

I'd say a better rule is that they won't pick characters who are heavily involved in the current expansion's MSQ. Being a job trainer locks them in place so they're always available for you to make quest progress.

always felt Estinien was a after thought with the Drg lvl 70 quest because he did just show up
he did appear in SB msq twice possibly might get a greater role again in the story or he was just there to clean up the eyes

He seems like an ongoing character now. I'd be surprised if he doesn't turn up in either MSQ or DRG quests for Shadowbringers.

Also the closing paragraph of his Tale from the Storm alludes to the three expansions (azure day, crimson dusk, black twilight) which again makes me think he'll continue to be involved.

His late entry into the DRG quests again seems to be because he "should" still be over in Gyr Abania seeking the Eyes and single-handedly destroying Garlean cannons at the point where you instead run into him hunting dragons in Othard. It would be even messier if he was involved in the quest for longer.

Maybe he learned where the eyes were and until the end of the msq he knew he couldn't deal with them so that freed up some time to help you out. I like that he's just roaming around being a badass.

If they stick the gunblade teacher in an ARR area to me it's make the most sense to stick them in Gridania as it's the closest to where they would be coming from. With the wall near by and having had to deal with Ala Mhigo attacking them during the Autumn War.

To be fair, there's plenty of places that could make sense for ARR zones to have Gunblade teacher.

I mean, there's Mor Dhona with Castrum Centri, East Shroud with the wall that has Castrum Oriens on the other side, Eastern La Noscea with Castrum Occidens, Western Thanalan with Castrum Marinum (Off from Cape Westwind) and Northern Thanalan with Castrum Meridianum.

With Castrum Meridianum also containing the Praetorium, where we did things that could potentially make some Imperials wanna be not enemies any more at the end of the ARR storyline. There may also be people still loyal to Gaius van Baelsar there, in case there are any spoilery reasons why that fact might be relevant at all.

I'm not sure about that as how would it make sense if they came from those areas with how they've done the other newest job unlocks in just needing to have Prae finished. At that time most of them wouldn't know he's alive and there'd still be tension vs if it's to have any tie ins with the end of the 4.5 storyline and start of 5.0 it would make more sense to be put into Girdania as I doubt there's still not a lot of people who would know he's still alive as I'm sure he's sorta in the same boat as Nero in that he'd be arrested. Also they haven't done anything with those in the longest time. It would feel a little silly to say oh yeah there's stiiiil people in those places after all this time who must be starving or stealing food.

Even if they don't know if he's alive (Spoilers).

They saw us kick his butt. They probably would be against us kicking their butt too. So why not swap sides and you know, help the person who not only kicked your bosses butt, but kicked the butt of the super weapon your boss was using and also kicked the butt of an Ascian. All in the short span of a single visit to your base...

Meanwhile, the fact that Baelsar got his butt kicked, started to get him a fair amount of scorn as a leader (Referenced later in the SB storylines), which follows the general attitude of the Imperials where showing weakness is not acceptable. It wouldn't be too hard to also then infer that people who were loyal to Baelsar would also receive scorn for believing in a weak leader. Even more so if they still were somewhat loyal to him despite believing he's dead.

So, there's at least some precedent for a motive for fleeing the imperials and siding with the WoL, even when isolated to merely ARR events, rather than much of the other Castrums where it's kind of just "Yeah, they just decided to desert the Imperials one day"

Of course, this is only predicated on if they DO in fact put the Gunblade job into the ARR timeline.

Well... This is irrelevant, given that we're talking about doing something within the ARR timeline. Meaning there wouldn't be much time since Praetoreum and this guy showing up, given that this guy showing up would be the direct result of clearing Prae, thus it making a whole bunch of sense.

We also don't know if these new jobs are starting at 50 so far as I know. For SB they did, but we're an expansion later. What if the new jobs start at 60? That could open them up to starting in HW zones as well.
