It'll no doubt be Gai... I mean, Shadowhunter. Failing that, it could be the contingent of Garlean refugees, eg. someone like Maxima, and I'd be fine with that. Him saving/assisting Alphinau won't be forgotten in a hurry. Likeable character, disheartened with the Empire, uses a Gunblade and seems the type who could easily fill the teacher void, probably as part of payment/penance for swapping side - which would leave us without future plot-holes like Shadowhunter would (assuming they follow through with that side of things down the road).
Quite possible that we'd get a fresh new character for it as well, but I'd bank on the above two for now.
"And all the Hyur's say I'm pretty sage – for a White Mage!"
I doubt Shadowhunter. I think he'll be too important in the MSQ to be the job teacher, as you usually don't get npcs having major roles in both. The exception is Estinien but he wasn't in the HW dragoon quests proboably for that very reason. It'll no doubt be Gai... I mean, Shadowhunter. Also given that these aren't imperial style gunblades my money is that they were made to defend against and counter imperial weapons rather than being of imperial origin.
The teacher has to be present for the end of HW as the restriction is to be lv 60 with ShB expansion to unlock it in Gridania. Could they use the ex-garlean guy who is with Kan-E-Senna possible as much possible as a defector that was trying new techniques with a gunblade
Guy butt is best butt <3

Yeah, given that they went with VIII Gunblades instead of the Garlean style ones, I'm willing to bet that we won't have a Garlean being the class tutor.

Non-imperial Gunblades are what we wanted and what we're getting.Q: It was announced that the gunblades would be different from the ones the Empire uses. Why is that?
A: Simply because I wasn't involved with 1.0's story *laughs* The Empire's gunblades were designed before I joined FFXIV, so it feels like they aren't the gunblades that everyone wants to see. The Empire's gunblades are bayonets--they're guns with blades attached to them. However, the gunblade that the players want is Squall's, right? They would be happier if we implemented that one instead. But of course, it has to tie into the lore, so the job quests will explain why we haven't seen these non-imperial gunblades until now.
As such, it's likely that we'll have a non-imperial job teacher. Hence why starting the job in somewhere like Gridania (Tentative) makes some level of sense because it doesn't need to be connected to the imperials at all.
So, now my guess is we might have a new fanservice-y character come in.
Such as a quiet, brooding guy with medium length brown hair, a scar across his face... Goes by the name "Leon"... Likes to say "...Whatever..." a bunch...
