Estinien is available then because those Dragoon quests happen before Heavensward starts. Doesn't matter when you personally take it, that's when it happens.

I hope it's Nero. I really, really want more Nero. But like Gaius, I figure he and Cid will have an important role in the upcoming expansion.
And people pointing out Estinien and the Dragoon questline. I leveled up Dragoon during 3.2. This really sticks out because of what was happening in the MSQ during that time. So yeah, time bubble. The patch something's introduced is more or less when it takes place.
More than likely a new character, most of the above mentioned are too involved in major storylines, if not MSQ. Even Lucia's stuck in Ishgard, considering it needs to start in an ARR area.
The only other defector I can think of in canon so far is the Keeper of the Entwined Serpent that hangs around Kan-E-Senna, he's a rescued soldier from Cartenau (see here). The only thing is he seems to have been a Reaper pilot rather than infantry, so who knows if he had a gunblade?

Why would it need to start in an ARR area? There is no way in hell it's starting at level 50 - that's way too much levelling if you want to switch main jobs at launch. It'll be level 60 that it starts at, which allows for HW areas as well. Though honestly, I think the way they handled new jobs in HW was better. I really think they should be unavailable if you haven't completed the previous expansion. This way they don't have to avoid referencing past MSQ content in the initial job quest arc, and the timeline of events across all content is clearer...

If he did then maybe a shorter one I mean various pilots in WWII were given guns for the possible being shot over enemy lines. Though he is one of her personal guards so I'm not sure how that would work. He would also have to show up not using the lance he carries.

Cid also has a technically-a-gunblade.
As in it's a gun, with a blade attached. Except the gun is a pistol (or some other one-handed handgun).
When he wields it, it's using the default Gladiator/Paladin pose, ie left arm in front, right arm with the weapon behind, so I assume it's just a mainhand reskin (possibly of a DoH/L mainhand) rather than a full weapon.

I've theorized that it would be a certain dead guy, (got shout down bc he was you know dead at the time), so I also theorized someone related to Mr.DeadGuy having us take up the mantle to battle the primal threat more proactively. You know because the last time MSQ us super focused on Primals was 2.X, now it's just something that shows up.
So yeah, some one related to woohoo and taking us on adventures to stop beastmen and primals.

I don't think our trainer would be Cid as that would be going against what he stands for. Also not sure if the Empire taught that to everyone like how a sword and shield or a lance were taught to Ishgardians. I mean he could have because he was of a higher ranking/wealthy family but even before his father died he seemed to want to stick to the engineering side of things and not go into the military. I brought up that the gunblade for pilots might be shorter because I'm not sure how or where one would store it in one of those. Course Elezenos did take off in one with a katana so idk.

I honestly don't think that Cid has the capacity to actually have any permanent roles. I mean, he shows up in so many different side quests and the like and is always "Oh, it's a surprise to see you again!" which would be weird if we were constantly visiting him to learn stuff...
Cid might FEATURE in a Gunblade job quest, such as vouching for a Garlean who is the actual teacher or designing some Gunblade equipment that would be uniquely for the WoL rather than some Garlean garbage we would likely end up primarily using...
The question on WHO might be the teacher, really depends on where the initial discovery of the class happens time-wise. Like, post Stormblood would make the Populares the obvious source of a trainer.
If the Warring Triad was actually part of the MSQ, then someone associated with the imperial group/Regula van Hydrus could have been a possibility...
Of course, never discount the possibility of the trainer being someone who happened to be researching into Gunblades and found that the Garleans didn't invent them and instead they just adapted it based on records from [Insert Allagans/Other Ancient Civilisation Here]. Kind of like with the ARR SCH quests.

MSQ characters aren't usually job NPCs. The exception was Estinien I think, but he was not a MSQ character in 2.x, when he was in the DRG job quest.
