I just want to play the game.... I want to want to but it isn't happening at the moment. I play these type of games generally with RL friends but the party system never feels like are hel'ping each other, and gl are the same. 1star or 5 they are trivial and boreing, and it pains me see it happen to SE_

Everything you guys are talking about in terms of variety are as I said more or less the FFXI Assaults and Nyzul Isle. You have sneaking missions, escorts, rescue mission, uncovering treasure, ect ect and all with different conditions. Actually if you think about it, the Assault tag system is exactly like the Guildleve distribution.

People say guildleves are a good alternative to grind... but replacing one grind with another isn't exactly a "good alternative".

People say guildleves are good because they are easy SP... but shouldn't the game be about a meaningful journey to endgame as much as it should be about endgame content itself? Having a system that rushes you to endgame is basically saying the journey is meanginless and a pointless intermediate, so why not just decrease SP limits on levels if that is all that matters? Why not delete levels entirely and have 100% horizontal content?

So far the arguments in favour of leves seem to stem only from a dislike of the alternative rather than actually liking the system itself.

A questing system akin to Assault (where the objectives of the quests made sense, and the quests themselves were interesting) would be far more favourable.

Obviously they could still call it a guildleve system. Going to a counter to collect the leve isn't really an issue, it's the fact that the leve system from that point forward sucks total crap.

Forgive me for missing your point, but doesn't this point to leves at least being a better option? Grinding will never be something people especially look forward to, isn't the lesser of two evils the best approach?

I didn't really mind the guildleves being boring as long as I got a good chunk of experience I didn't complain.

Guildleves should have better rewards for completing them. Like clothing, accessories or weapons.

Well forgive me for missing YOUR point but isn't this forum about ideas to improve the game, rather than just supporting a system that obviously isn't any fun. The lesser of two evils isn't the best approach when there are third, fourth, and fifth options which are better.

    Progression systems

    1) Grind your way to endgame

    "Boring"

    2) Grind your way to endgame with the occasional support from a guildleve to give you a boost

    "Still boring"

    3) Grind your way to endgame but instead of boring levequests, they have been replaced by levequests with a diverse array of objectives which are actually fun. Furthermore, there is variety so you aren't repeating the same leves over and over for the billionth time..

    "Wow that sounds much better"

    4) A little bit of grind so you can figure out how to play your class and gain a sense of progression, supplemented with a diverse array of guildleves, sidequests, and general self-motivated content, all of which are fun and exciting and you never feel pressured into doing leves just because it is the most efficient use of your time.

    "This sounds good too"

    5) No grinding of leves but instead there is grinding of skills and abilities. Progression is in the form of quests (either guildleve or sidequest-based) which give you access to skills and abilities. Endgame starts at day one and you don't have to go through the boring, repetitive intermediate. There is 100% horizontal content where the only factor which influences your completion of the content is your commitment to the game, abilities, cooperation with teammates, and your skill with the combat system.

"This sounds good too but is a matter of taste"

Look at it this way, be happy there are Leves. If there wasn't then everyone would be complaining about the dreaded Coblyns/Doblyns grind even more.

PS: Behest are boring as hell too. But SP is SP.
