Slippery slope fallacies are hardly convincing.

Making tank pieces available to glam would not make people stop playing tank, especially if the glam restriction was that you had to be the appropriate level of job to use the piece (i.e. if you wanted to use Rakshasa tank gloves, you had to be a lvl 70 tank).

Then i think "what would be the most catastrophic things that can come out of this?" and I imagine all the bad stuff that can come out of it. I know I'm just one brain and I can't possibly cover all the options. Then I weight my personal feelings towards the pros and cons. More often than not i'm neutral towards things.

    ...

My brain works in strange ways and my hands are too frozen to keep going not to mention that this is too long winded already. I hope you somewhat understand my thought process on this. I will eventually explain which "catastrophic" drawback is making me lean against the removal of class restrictions if people still wish to understand.
Prepare for me being long-winded now! I hope that it's semi-easy to read since I just woke up and all.

I am not sure if the harassment thing is really what you think or not. If so, you do not need to worry because no one would get upset if someone decided to glam the aforementioned Amon hat onto a class that wasn't BRD.

But, since you have a lot of reasons why it shouldn't be unlocked, I will give you literally every point I can think of.

    1. Lore. The only pieces of gear that have any lore significance are the AF. I can understand and would support keeping AF locked, because there is a reason to. Other than that, there is nothing. The only piece that jumps to mind is some of the Crystal Tower Scylla stuff, but even that is immediately shattered when (hello again) the Amon gear comes into play. Amon was not a BRD, he was a magician. So, why can BLM and SMN not wear it?

    2. Style. People want tanks to look like tanks and healers to look like healers. First off, we are playing Final Fantasy.
Second, there is growing to be enough jobs that thematically they do not even share the same style. The most egregious one currently is RDM vs BLM/SMN. Style wise, RDM looks absolutely awful and makes no sense in so many of these casting tops. Too long. Designed for a class that doesn't charge in and do backflips. You know what they do look nice in? Scouting and Aiming gear.
What is going to happen if the add DNC to the healer list? There is no way in fresh heck that a DNC would ever fit in thematically with anything in the healer gear arsenal. What if they ever make a caster tank? They could easily solve this by making DNC use DEX as their healing stat and shove them into the scouting gear, or make the caster tank use currently existing caster gear, but now they are facing the problem that the current casters have.
Third, they break their own style rules and put in restrictions that make no sense.

Why is this healer outfit okay?

    And this one not?

The bottom one is far more thematic than the top, but yet it's the one that is restricted.

    Why are these gloves okay?

    But these banned?

They are not intrinsically different, but we are not allowed to use them because "NIN gear would look silly on MNK". In reality, no... the majority of gear would not.

    3. Clipping. Wah. Everything clips. Next.

    4. Harassment?? I question mark this because I think it's not a real point? Possibly? Nothing should be restricted because of potential or perceived harassment unless it is directly harmful (i.e. chat restrictions are dumb - restrictions on new members withdrawing FC funds is not).

    5. Taste. This is Yoshi-P's argument and it is so weak it fell through the moment it was spoken. This seems to be the go-to argument for most people against it and well... it's bad.
Taste is subjective, and your taste is not law or even a good opinion. I personally cannot stand fem Au Ra at all. I wouldn't shed a single tear if they came in tomorrow and said they were deleting them, but I would never ask SE to not allow people to play them due to my personal taste because I know people love them. There is nothing really wrong with them, they just don't jive with me. Likewise, I expect people to extend the same courtesy to my choices. Which they don't. Queue another 'hee elezen r ugli XD' thread.

    6. Technical issues. Knowing SE, this is more than likely the culprit. If they had coded their glamour system properly, unlocking things would be as simple as making the switch from FALSE to TRUE.
Not an excuse in my book, considering that hefty AAA title they carry.

    Now for good things...

    1. It would increase the number of people running content. Yes, I know I would hop right back into Saint Mocianne's for some farming if I knew that I could use the Coat of the Red Thief on my casters. I would start those Alex and Sigmascape farms for all the glam in the world. As it currently stands now, I hate MNK and SAM. But I like MNK and SAM gear. Does not mean I will farm for it, because I won't. That's one less healer/tank (I swap) in the queues.

    2. Creativity. It would allow some awesome glams that are currently unable to be used. What is better than seeing more variety in clothing around Eorzea? More gear means less homogenization and in a world of cat and lizard waifus, that's a bonus.

    3. It takes absolutely nothing away from those who want to be more traditional. I am in the same boat where I want my tanks to only wear heavy armour. That's my choice. I like that style, but neither do I get irritated when I see a bikini tank. That's their choice on their character, not mine.
If you want your WHM to only ever wear white robes, you can still do that! You can still be a purist, you don't have to put Amon's hat on your BLM. You are happy because you still have your choice, and now someone else is happy they get their choice.

Sorry if it came off as slightly aggressive towards you Schan, I tend to have that tone with everything I write.

I am genuinely curious to what you think is the catastrophic drawback, because I literally cannot think of one that has any weight except for the hurt feelings of those who want people to dress the way they like it.

I didn't read anything as coming off as aggressive dear, no worries.

I agree with all your points. I also find that "Taste" is a weak argument in general which is what disappointed me when Yoshi P said something about the subject.

I'm all for people having more ways to dress up their characters.

The thing that tilts the scales towards disagreeing with lifting the restrictions is two sided.
On one side, people need to understand that slowly... very slowly we're being given some more freedom. On an MMO if you were given everything straight away there would be no more room for it to develop and grow on a timely manner. Players can eat through the content faster than the devs can design and implement it. That includes gear designing and implementing. With restrictions it allows them to re-use gear but swapping the classes who can wear what. It allows to buy devs time while they work on other stuff. It's frustrating at times but I can live with this.
It aggravates me when people act like they have no choices or freedom on how they can dress their characters. With patience you will keep getting more and more choices.

On the other hand if everyone can wear everything what would stop the devs from releasing a single set and just dye with differently and slap different stats for the different classes? I'm going to steal Gemina's term of gear identityTM (thanks).

If gear identity is lost why waste resources designing let's say... that steampunk style from a tank's perspective? (It's part of why I have a love-hate relationship with the sky rat gear set). If SE deems it a waste of resources to have 5 people working on designing gear when you only need 1 design you can bet they'll tell those other 4 to go work on their next FF instead leaving FF14 even more starved of staff.

Are you willing to have a lot of choice right now at the risk of sacrificing variety in the future?

I do not want to take that risk. I do not want to give them an excuse to just spit out 1 gear set and just recolour it. For me lifting the restrictions is a lazy band-aid that can potentially limit our freedom in the future. I absolutely do not want that.

And that's why I'm here. I like what the OP is trying to do. Some people are trying to compromise with what was given to us. I know the system is convulted and frustrating but I think requesting that Amon set as a level 1 glamour is a way to try and work with what we have right now instead of throwing a tantrum because people are not getting the gear restrictions they want due to limitations of the server / stubborness of the devs.

Maybe Yoshi P would be less frustrated with the playerbase if we stopped acting like 3 year olds.

    Ninja edit:
    Apologies for the crappy screenshot.

That's my healer. Stop saying that you only got robes for healers. We need to stop turning everything into hyperboles. We could use more gear sets within certain styles ( military or tribal for instance) but they are not non-existant. (as much as i hate pagos at least it brought one of ARR's favorite gear sets as a lvl 1 glam set)

It is a thought that passed my mind once or twice, but I almost feel like if they were to have that attitude, they would have already implemented it. They already have people raising heck when they release reskins (The Burn gear), so I would just assume they know that designing less gear is not a feasible option to their audience. I can say with confidence that glam is the biggest thing in this game, second only to maaaaaybe story, and SE would be straight fools to reduce the amount of gear they design.

My problem with unlocking only a few pieces at a time is how they would see the demand for it. If you were to make a list of gear people want unlocked, it would be the entire roster of gear. If they only unlock say... Amon's gear as level 1 glam, you'll get people angry about how they wanted Scylla's gear. When are we getting Scylla's gear? If they can unlock Amon why can't we get X, Y, and/or Z? A drip feed will not solve the overarching problem and increase item bloat quite badly.
I am not sure how they would pick and choose what gear is worthy of being unlocked.

(I don't even like Amon's hat. It's just the first thing I could think of.)
