    PvP and its Popularity

Do any of you have any ideas you wanna drop down that you think would help make PvP more popular? 5.0 PvP used to be super fun but I guess it was because I played Bard/MCH and they were beastly. Then came the job nerfs inside PvP and it just seems a little too bland. As a dps, I sit in queue for Ranked Feast for sometimes 30+ mins, and I feel that's when you know a feature needs renovation. What they did with Frontlines (rotate the maps daily) was great. Queues are typically short, even if you don't have Freelance clicked.

Not popular for me and never will be. Find it very boring and not worth my time. Only way find it fun is if they added bunch games and events to it. Maybe like water guns fights or blitzball something like those.

I'd argue that PvP in FFXIV saw the most success during the height of the Garo campaign. Providing rewards that everybody could work towards proved to be wonderful for the queues for every game mode.

Alas, the devs mistakenly attributed that momentary growth towards the exclusive Hellhound mount, and never replicated it again. Which is one of the reasons people stopped caring about PvP again. Granted, they went too far with pruning; taking away any real form of CC outside a select few jobs. There is also the much maligned chat ban that they insist improved things. Stormblood certainly suggests otherwise.

At this point, they need to return to basics. Bring back a host of abilities and focus on staple PvP modes like Slayer, Capture the Flag and etc. Perfect those, then try more gimmick stuff like Rival Wings. They keep trying to use gimmicks to attract interest and it's failed virtually every single time. If they aren't willing to do that, stop focusing so much resources on PvP because it just isn't working out. And it hasn't for four years now.

Well PvP in FFXIV has some major issues, mostly with bots and hackers although the hackers have died down at least a little, they were giving out rewards to speed hackers and people who were farming their friends at dead hours that in itself crippled a lot of the PvP community. Bots have been rampant in PvP and again SE hasn't really done much to alleviate them which hurts the game and it's PvP as a whole these 2 issues combined with the exclusive rewards being handed out in such a manner it creates problems-now don't get me wrong there are people who earned it but there's a lot of win trading behind the scenes.

And the other elephant in the room that makes PvP not as popular...server ticks these honestly kill it in PvP where you have to predict within .5 seconds if they're gonna use X ability so you can silence for pressure and what not most of the time the cast is at 25% and it still goes through. It's the single most annoying thing that at first isn't an issue until you get into the Feast and you think you silenced the Whm/Ast/Blm and you didn't and then they have DR (diminishing returns and therefore are immune) and it's a slog because you didn't get it perfect with the server.

The only time I find PvP is fun is when you have 4+ people that you can communicate on Discord with in a Frontlines or Seal Rock and the occasional Rival Wings when people que for it but that brings my final issue with PvP and that's the Feast, you can't communicate via chat. It's mind boggling that a game that requires you to que by yourself to get rewards if you don't have 3 other people and yet you can't talk all you can do is hit the button that says "i'm focusing the healer!" but most of the time people don't use the buttons.

Sorry for the long rant but I played a ton of PvP both ranked, unranked, battlegrounds (mass PvP) and it's not as appealing as other MMOs such as GW 2 or WoW it's just behind compared to the other games you could play with way more depth.

Edit: Also que times are bad forgot to mention that most other games you can PvP your heart out at any hour but FFXIV the que times are rather bad and you can only PvP at select hours so it's quite limiting or you have to check the Reddit for Rival Wings for example to even que for it.

PvP stopped beeing fun when SE tried to make it completly braindead. Before SB PvP was really fun to play if you knew how to play your class good, now its just faceroll.

I really miss playing Seal Rock, but as long as we have this "hit 2 buttons" crap i'm not going to do PvP.

PVP is kinda awkward with the Tab Targeting system. Hopefully the next FF MMO will get rid of it maybe xD. Black Desert Online's combat is something they should try getting ideas from .

The tab target system is not a problem, actually all older games (Aion for example) have this and their pvp is still better than this here.

"We want the ability to earn past Feast rewards!" - HAHA no that's sacred.

I played a pretty reasonable amount in 2.0/3.0, for frontlines anyway. Had a decently large linkshell for casual pvp, but when feast was introduced it all fell apart and most people moved on to try feast and quit shortly after. After that, the option to queue as a freelancer was added. While this is a great option for easing the terrible queues, it did kill a bit of "grand company pride" that I feel helped form bonds with people. I personally didn't care for the 4.0 changes, the change to pvp gear being only glamour, and all of the feast in general. Now on primal data center, it feels like only maelstrom has real players while the others are mostly bots so there is no enjoyment to doing frontlines anymore.
