You know that thing people complain about NIN having? Let's give it to WAR because even if it's available to all tanks WAR would get the most out of it.

I think, given the stale 'everything feels the same' state of the game as it is, they would butcher blue mage so badly it wouldn't even be fun. Blue mage is suppose to learn the skills of the enemy that uses such against him...which would mean they would get FAR MORE abilities than the usual 30(ish) that every job has...which clearly isn't gonna happen. So out of the plethora of enemy abilities you could learn...you are only going to get a fraction of them...which limits the limitless possibilities of blue mage. They probably won't even be cool abilities either, like a Morbol's bad breath, or a cockatrices petrify...it will just be your standard run of the mill abilities that pretty much recycled from other abilities.
...but then again...I'm probably the only guy playing this game that actually doesn't want more jobs found in the next expansion.
This is my fear as well. Until there are more varied and ambitious design philosophies in play, I can't help but groan at the idea of XIV's likely/precedented implementation paths.I think, given the stale 'everything feels the same' state of the game as it is, they would butcher blue mage so badly it wouldn't even be fun. This. I would expect that Magitek be saved for a job whose name smacks of technology, or at least something vaguely Imperial. Blue Mage connotes an image almost pure opposite to that. It's the stuff of for-better-or-worse, eclectic traditional that, while emulatable, requires a natural-born connection to the land to understand. There are few things Garleans would feel more, albeit subtly, provoked by. If there was a culture putting out Blue Mages generation after generation, you could safely bet they'd have suppressed it wholly. If Blue Magic and its associated quests are tied to learning from the beasts and creatures of the natural world, I'd be surprised if it was based on magitek. I'd expect more of a tie in to the Beast Tribes (or perhaps even Thavnarian alchemy) in place of Garlemald. I also think that heavy armor and bladed weapons are over-represented with tanks at the moment. You need an aesthetic that feels different from the present tanks.
I'm personally hoping that Blue Magic incorporates shape-shifting, perhaps in the same vein as Vincent Valentine's beast forms.
Either way, here's hoping for a tank which doesn't use slashing damage. At the very least, let it be an excuse to put an end to that awful slashing debuff for good.
To me it seemed like it ought to be a blend of Sharlayan Aether-tapping and Bestiary learning, the Gridanian elemental-infused/-sapped Wildlings, Thavnarian psychosomatic and essential alchemy, and maybe some sort Myrcidian beast essence arts or Dalamascan skin-shifter techniques, etc. Essentially, all those old cultural centers that for the most part (obviously not the Dalmascans) have managed to keep their distance, but know what's at stake and respect that even while having troubles of their own.
Magi-tech
A magitek job has to be magic based, as well as technological.
Blue magic could involved drawing powers from the primals, much like Ultima Weapon.
But then why not call it an Artificer or Devicer or the like, and go whole hog with its unique take, rather than subsume/pervert a distinct aesthetic?
Blue Mage in all the titles it appeared had a mess of abilities, yes, but how many were actually useful?I think, given the stale 'everything feels the same' state of the game as it is, they would butcher blue mage so badly it wouldn't even be fun. Who really wants level based abilities?
...what...? Quite a lot, actually. I can name more than 30 quite quickly, if I didn't feel it was an utter waste of time.
Besides, what's the point of calling a person that can only learn a hard cap of 'x' abilities a blue mage anyway? It would be a gimp.
