How the heck can I get a damn house in this game??

My friends and I FINALLY discovered an available plot only to discover that an AFK Miqo'te hogger was camped out there for HOURS.

A friendly person told me to check every few hours and see if something becomes available, but nothing yet.

How is the turnover in this game? Is it realistic to actually expect that something will in fact be available??

And here I was thinking Gil was the only issue. Lol

The housing system in its current form was a colossal mistake having a static number of plots when theres literally millions of players. I'll be real with you man, unless you manage to buy one from an illegal seller, partake in the bloodbath whenever they decide to add new wards or camp at an empty plot for the rest of your life when one opens up, you probably arent gonna get a house. Hell even if you do all the above things theres no guarantee that you'll even get one.

It very much depends on what server you are on.
Most of the smaller servers have plenty of Small housing plots available, with Mediums and even the occasional Large plot becoming available now and then.

On the larger and busier servers it can be hard to get a house. They do become available now and then, but tend to be bought up very quickly.

You do know you can report those players standing on the empty plots since being on the plot will not allow a player to purchase the it, which by the ToS, it is a violation to disrupt other players gameplay. Buying a housing plot is somewhat gameplay. so if you do see a player doing that, report them. I've seen players magically disappearing or being moved by GMs for standing on empty plots when players want to purchase it.

There's your answer unfortunately, especially on highly populated servers.

Move to a server that isn't overcrowded. I'm on Adamantoise, and there are dozens of plots available in the Goblet, and a handful in each of the other housing areas - there were even a few smalls in Shirogane when I checked last week. The apartment complex in my ward(Goblet 13) also has literally only a single apartment taken up.

FFXIV doesn't have a housing crisis, it has a population crisis specific to certain servers.

The OP implies that the person in question was waiting outside of the plot, which would not be a disruption of gameplay - so be careful what you actually do file reports for!
Blocking access to the house by camping on the plot = bad
Trying to get the plot aswell by camping infront of it, off the property = no problem

Wait if I stand on the grass of a plot it stops someone from buying the plot? I know this game has some coding spaghetti, but really!?!? That's ridiculous that that can even happen.

More on topic, if you want a house but ur on a large server u can either be super patient and scout out wards in ur off time or transfer to a smaller server. Ik on my server we have a bunch of houses avail.

oh i took it as the player being on the plot thats why i said its ok to report that. but if they are just by the placard, thats nothing. even standing in front of the placard, GMs wont do anything cause its not blocking anyone from accessing the placard. since you can just press F12 or the up/down buttons on the controller for those PS4 users
