Well housing has been around say what 3 or so years? It has taken me that long. Finally got one last housing patch.
Instanced housing or a mix of instance and non instanced would help alot.

My server has lots of available housing, but that's largely due to all the transplants from Balmung all jumping ship to go back when the server reopened for a week.
People are quick to blame the housing area design as the cause of not being able to purchase a personal house.
However housing originally was designed as a FC feature. They opened the housing later for personal use due to large amounts of residential areas being sparsely populated or empty because at the time buying a house was a huge thing even for an FC. Though I think part of it was most wanted the large or medium plots. When it was opened for personal use the small plots all disappeared rather quickly.
As it is now I don't think its too much about the playerbase size increase. Its an increase of players that know how to actually make gil in this game and as such can actually afford a house paired with a lack of cash sinks that players can spend gil on reducing the amount of gil in circulation.
Remember to check Goblet, many servers have available houses there for days
so if someone is AFK in an empty plot, no one can buy it???? This seems like something that needs to be fixed, if so.
Neither one makes any sense. Why should somebody standing in the yard stop either a purchase or the house being built? It's not as though they can stand where the house will go - that area isn't accessible. That sounds like a mis-interpretation of what is happening. I think if someone is standing on the plot it sould only prevent a house from being built, not bought.Wait if I stand on the grass of a plot it stops someone from buying the plot? I know this game has some coding spaghetti, but really!?!? That's ridiculous that that can even happen.
The random timer was intended to hinder resellers and to even the chances of players competing to make a new purchase of a specific plot.Rongway is correct. Buy any small house you can first. This bypasses the random lockout timer and allows you to buy the first decent house you spot instantly.
In fact, I'm not sure why the random timer exists. You simply buy a small as a placeholder and the system doesn't apply to you.
The problem is that as long as the relocation bypass exists, neither is really accomplished. As long as there's another plot available for direct purchase (or the buyer already owns a house), the resellers can still sell what they own to other players without the timer interfering.
Players with a lot of gil have a distinct advantage over players who have barely enough gil to purchase a plot and the estate permit since they can just buy the cheapest small available then instantly relocate. They're only hindered if there are no other plots available.

Then I don't get the issue for OP ? If the kitty cat is AFK, too bad for him, OP could have just bought the house oOThe OP implies that the person in question was waiting outside of the plot, which would not be a disruption of gameplay - so be careful what you actually do file reports for!
Blocking access to the house by camping on the plot = bad
Trying to get the plot aswell by camping infront of it, off the property = no problem
People don't know how to take criticism anymore, and bad play is rewarded with with a coddling mentality. Yes, this is a casual game for the most part - that doesn't mean people need to walk on eggshells in fear of getting reported for pointing out things. This whole 'please don't say anything even slightly negative' mentality that we seem to be going towards and the devs seemingly pushing towards it is creating a disturbing trend.
Honestly all depends on what world you are on and the housing location, also the size of the house. Places like Kugane and the mists are extremely popular. The more populated the world the more difficult it is to obtain a house
2 months ago I posted something similar: I was trying to relocate from a small to a medium plot.
I was spamming the relocate button but I didn't work.
While I was doing this UNPLEASANT job, a random guy clicked and relocate.
Here trolls and forumers had nothing better to do than write "your connection is bad" without even knowing my ISP, latency, packet loss and other.
Now let me explain one thing: the "relocate" magic is a fake of this forum. If it was true, I could take the medium plot 2 months ago.
Another fake is "if someone is inside the plot you cannot buy that plot: Yesterday I relocated from a small to a small, there were a few inside that plot but I did it without any problem.
The only (unproven) possible thing is "you can automatically relocate from a plot to another plot of the same size"
- What's true is that the system IS BROKEN,
I logged 1 hour ago and my previous plot is still unsold, BUT there are people I saw yesterday still trying to buy it.
We are talking about 15+ hours of RNG!
- What's true is SE needs to add more and more ward. A f2p game like lotro has 200 wards x 5 housing zones x server =1000 wards.
If SE could arrive at 400 wards total x server in a flexible way (server highly populated = more wards, low population = less wards) it could become possible to improve the meaning of housing: for example, a FC can buy a large one and the players of that FC could buy medium and small houses in the same ward. This FC could coordinate the style, and avoid obscenity: In shirogane, I have a paissa and a moogle house as neighbors.
- what is true is that SE has to remove unfair advantages: I'm talking about players with 2+ FC per account and with an house per FC. they have a fleet, while right now there are new FC restrictions per account.
There are a lot of things to do and I don't understand why SE isn't doing anything.
We have an active event at gold saucer, where you can buy 3 housing items, correct?
Now, if you don't have an house, why should you buy these items?
And there is more, you can place these 3 items decently only in a LARGE house: I tried to place 2 in a medium house and the result is awful (because every of them take up a lot of space).
I have 10,000 needles,
I'm not a weaver,
and I'm not scared to use them.
