My coworkers have been married for 3 years. They play World of Warcraft 14 hours a day 3 days a week. They both work Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday on 8 hour shifts, so on those days they only play about 7 hours. That means they spend a grand total of 70 hours online, gaming together every week.

Yep. It's pretty easy for hardcore gamers to be spoken for. They tend to date and marry other hardcore gamers. Oh yea, I forgot to mention that they met while playing Runescape several years back. So yea, it happens.

And before you start saying there aren't many hardcore female gamers out there, you should probably crawl out from under the rock you live beneath. This is 2011, where 40% of gamers are female. Don't believe me? Look it up. As a female gamer, i would never date a guy who wasn't as into gaming as i am.

Couples who like gaming will game together. Couples who like movies will watch tv together. Couples who like riding bikes will proooobably ride bikes together. It's all about finding a person who is right for you.

Ok here comes the tricky part...

I was described as a "Efficient Casual" by some descriptions in this Thread and by some i would be described as "Hardcore".
So i will cut your Statements, since i apparently dont fit into just one direction. On a sidenote.. i just use your Post, since its a good example for a lot of people which make their own description of Casual/Hardcore.

According to this i would be Hardcore, since i try to get each achievement, every Class to 50 and i try to experience everything in the Game.

At this Point i would prolly be a mix of Both, depending on the Situation.

According to this i would be Casual. Even if i try to "beat" the Game, im actually a "Its just a game Person". I dont take Stuff serious really and i would be worried if i would.

So what kind of Player i am?

I don't consider myself hardcore/casual (but I might as well be casual since I work full-time). Stating something constructive on the forums is something everyone should do and shouldn't discriminate between player type.

Say what you will, but I've never once seen a group of casual gamers be the first to clear ANY content ever, in any of the vast number of MMO's I've played. It's just how it is. Doesn't mean they are not skilled, just means they don't devote the time or effort to figure out the game, they wait until its all provided in walk-thru form, then go after it on some random weekend.

Casual gamers like to speak down on hardcore players, saying we don't have lives and such, when most of us do work, and are married. Hell, a lot of us play with our families or spouses. I'm single, but I've got a job at least xD Then again, I barely play FF14 currently as it's just too casual for my tastes. I don't like that you can get 50 in 15-20 hours from level 1. Bottom line is, casual gamers never have room in endgame without hardcore players. If the hardcore crowd didn't clear the content a hundred times and make guides for it, they'd never beat it because they don't devote the time to figuring out all the intricate details of each fight.

Yeah, they pretty much lead the other players and guide them in the right direction. This used to be a big deal back in the Final Fantasy XI golden days. SE wouldn't open much to the public players circle and disclose content/ planning, you pretty much discovered it by yourself of ask in-game, "what is there to do?" I pay much respect to the hardcore brothers and sisters who have done the hard part for me (unless I do it myself) because they have brains if not just skill.

Like FFXI had relic and relic weapons for dynamis. Sure causal players can get relic gear but the very hardcore will be getting a relic weapon.

Adding in 30min fight as a full amount of content doesn't help the game. There needs to be longer content period... and longer waiting periods to do them.

Right now the game is in a werid period where its still in development and cant focus on large base content. I dont see any real content coming until after 2.0. If they add anything large now they would have to do more work for them to readjust it after 2.0.

Adding little bit and pieces of casual content seems to be taking the FF-Dev team longer this time around. I would not expect it to carry this game very far but only mark it as a pinch of what FFXI accomplished in it's first year( can anyone back me up on that?) The Ifrit fight doesn't really set the bar for end-game content as people are describing it and just "filler" for quest and rewards.

ENDGAME= New areas and monsters using and abusing a new system with more rewards and casualties to boot. People will be dyeing allot and not a welcoming hall for casuals.

Hardcore player: Plays 8+ hours a day 5-7 days a week.

Keep in mind there are very skilled casual players and very terrible hardcore players.

Im a big FF Enthusiast and love Final Fantasy! If you ask my entire family, they'd say that FF is all I talk about and that I love drawing, etc. I "sigh" because some hardcore LSs are really demanding and I can't seem to compromise my time ATM. I really want to play long hours and I know how to play and use the system efficiently(even tho SE needs to revamp the entire UI,IMO). I don't care about throwing my life away to play FF14, even if I had the choice of becoming a hard-core, my motto would still be "RL before game".

I'm pretty sure hard-core gather around a round table after the game IRL to discuss the next move (Skype, Teamspeak, Ventrilo, etc) which what probably casual don't really do IMO. They set the bar for MMOs where casuals (maybe me) don't influence too much the direction what a MMO can do.

Square Enix say's that they're taking everything that they had from FFxi and meshing it together in FFxiv. The MMO isn't done and I don't see what they meant by that( doesn't it mean it revolves around casual play?)

    comments and queries please!

I'm not under any rocks. When I started playing FFXI it was with a gf. So I know it's possible to be a hardcore gamer and have a gf. It's also rare. Pointing out two people you know in a rare situation isn't going to convince me most of the guys who spend 10+ hours a day gaming. Female gamers are another story. It's a lot easier for female gamers to hook up with the oppisite sex than it is the other way around. That's an entirely different topic though. Lol i'm living in Japan capital of hardcore gamers where 61% of males between 18-34 a single.

Also touching on something in one of your earlier post I think it's hardcore gamers who look down on casuals. MY "no life" post are all a result of people bashing casuals. I was once someone who spent a lot of time playing games but now I have more stuff to do. The only ting preventing me from being a "hardcore" player is lack of time to play.

vote weebles for president!! he will make separate server choices for all game types. check mark you game styles.

grind/long journey <> no grinds <> caps on quests and missions <> no caps on quests or missions <> no power leveling allowed <> power leveling allowed ...check mark witch ones you want .../load screen to your server type. yaaaaaaay no more 130page threads and we are all happy.

repeat from a diff post but i really would like this and would really like to see mmo's start doing stuff like this. i think runescape though old game has like 4-6 different types of server types. not played that game for more then like 5mins lol but i think that would be best way to start making mmo's.

    People are still debating this??
Hardcore does not have to be some intense grind. Hardcore = difficulty.
I gave you an example with Diablo 2's hardcore system. You get killed, you lose your character. That is ONE way of implementing a hardcore system.

Why the stigma of hardcore revolves around time consumption; is beyond me. I guarantee that most of you spend more than enough time on this game. If you're not playing the game, you're posting on this forum. If you're playing every single day, you're pretty much making the game part of your life.
I would not call that hardcore. I would call that a game addiction.

    Now stop with the nonsense.

it's not that you don't care, ehh if you didn't then mmo's that used to be very grindy would still be grindy and not keep changing threw complaints right? no body in games start with labels, people just like certain types of game play. none of them are wrong or right, or labels. playing the game as you stated is a game you picture as something you like, that is like saying you like our governments laws on pot cause you don't smoke, yeah it was built for you not others.

I suppose. I just get tired of people segregating themselves over meaningless titles that are never accurate in the first place. By different people's definition, I am casual, or hardcore. To me, I am me, and nothing else. I am just as happy playing a game like Hello Kitty as I would be playing one like FFXI.

Btw Weeble, forgive me for asking if I am thinking of someone else, but did you play Secret of the Solstice?
